I figure, you know, causing scandal and embarrassing my side would at least get her parents to back out of the deal. I've got a major skeleton in my closet that I could bring out, but I'm not sure if I should.

Noah, you could just outright reject the proposal. There's no need to bring unwarranted embarrassment to your family, when simply refusing publicly would do. Either way, your parents and her parents will be upset but at least the animosity would fade eventually.

I can't. I can't just reject it, they won't let it work like that. They've already told me I don't know how many times that I have no say in it.

This is a difficult and important decision you have to make, Noah. While I don't condone needlessly embarrassing your family, what is best for you overrides what they think in this situation.

Marriage is something that will be with you for you entire life, and you have to be certain to marry the right person or else you'll never be truly happy. The thought of you being in a situation that makes you unhappy bothers me, Noah, so I believe that perhaps your initial suggestion would be the best course of action.
