trishpiglet challenged me to say 10 things about myself beginning with the letter B
Buxom - I'm a big bosomy girl and I love it. I was really self-conscious in my early teens about having bigger boobs than my classmates, but now they're my favourite part of me. Long may it continue!
B-Movie - the late, lamented nightclub at the Water Rats (and later Canal 125). I had some amazing nights there, dancing my socks off and drinking and talking with fantastic people, many of whom I don't see so often these days
Bacon - everyone loves bacon. Apart from vegetarians, and strict Muslims and Jews. Probably some other religions. Fortunately as an atheist there is nothing to keep me from its salty meaty pleasures. My fridge feels naked without bacon in it - it's the perfect go-to ingredient to pep up a pasta sauce, salt up a stew or just to add an extra dimension of tasty loveliness to anything. Also, bacon sarnies. Yum.
Black - I may be a crap goth (tm) but it goes with everything, and suits my fair complexion.
Bisexual - I had feelings for girls all the way through school, but didn't act on them until I was at university, when I met other bi girls and suddenly didn't feel like such a freak. These days most of my relationships are with men but I think women are beautiful and sexy and love playing with them.
(The Princess) Bride - one of my favourite films, which I will cheerfully quote along with, often to the irritation of others.
Bibliophile - Unashamedly, joyously. Books are stunning, bewildering, enthralling, tactile and sensual. Did you know that old books smell good because when the lignin in the wood pulp breaks down, it releases fragrant esters similar to vanilla? They also make excellent insulation for my tiny studio flat in a shonky Victorian conversion.
Brixton - where I tell people I live if they don't know South London well, because nobody ever knows where I mean when I say Tulse Hill. Also, it sounds slightly more cool and bohemian.
Burne-Jones, Edward - my favourite Pre-Raphaelite artist. I like how he draws his muted colour palette from faded medieval stained glass and tapestry, and his inspiration from myth and legend. I have a print of The Beguiling of Merlin on my bedroom wall which was a gift from a gentleman friend some years ago, and which I love looking at.
Boots - I have a weakness for footwear. I try not to indulge it too much as it's an expensive hobby, but I find it hard to resist a
smart heeled boot in a Victorian or Edwardian style or a
stompy goth platform boot. I also have ridiculously tiny feet (about a size 3) which means I can sometimes get my shoes in children's departments, which is a boon pricewise.
