Underbed storage

Most of you probably know by now that I subscribe to William Morris's mantra that one should not have anything in one's home that one does not know to be useful, nor believe to be beautiful. It's also an aspect of my eco credentials that I usually prefer to buy something that costs slightly more, but which is made of good quality and preferably sustainable materials, than a cheap thing made of petrochemicals that will fall apart.

Having said that, I have a big problem in my flat at the moment, and that problem is storage. I have basically used up all of the available storage space in the flat, floor to ceiling, and I still have unsightly clutter. What I really need (other than to get rid of the World's Worst Sofa, which isn't an option) is some sort of under-bed storage solution. Sadly, the only options appear to be those under-bed vacuum bags, which I've tried before and which don't really work and tend to tear easily, or plastic storage boxes.

Does anyone have any idea where I can find sturdy, attractive underbed storage boxes - preferably wood or wood-and-canvas, that don't cost a fortune (say, around £20)? The only ones I can find are these, which while lovely, are a bit out of my price range!

Or does anyone have a suggestion for other things that could be repurposed for underbed storage?
