A Baby Valkyrie

Most of you have already heard the news on Twitter or Facebook, but for the rest of you (and so I can be more wordy), I wanted to post the great news here as well.

Baby Valkyrie, Thera Serena, was born on Friday, May 14th at 3:04 pm.  She weighed just 5 pounds, 15 ounces and was 18 inches long.  She got here 2 weeks and 5 days early.  She's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.

She had jaundice shortly after her birth, but her bilirubin levels (the indicator of jaundice in the blood) have gone down on their own.  Regular feeding and *ahem* subsequent waste removal did the trick.  She's also back up to her birth weight thanks to my feeding her as much as she'll take.  In case you weren't aware, all babies lose weight after their birth.  It's only a concern when the baby is small in the first place like mine was.

For the time being, and probably until she's basically sleeping through the night, she sleeps in a bassinet right beside my bed.  It makes nighttime feedings much more convenient, and it's reassuring to have her where I can see her and make sure she's alright.

I'm pretty sure she'll have my lips and eye shape, and I think she'll have her father's ears.  The rest is kind of up in the air at this point.  Her hair is right between blonde and brown right now (I'm blonde, and my husband's hair is black).  And her eyes won't be their eventual color for a few months (my eyes are blue and my husband's are green, for the most part - he has sectoral heterochromia, so he also has brown places in his eyes).  I can't wait to see what she'll look like eventually, but I'm going to savor every moment I can in the meantime.

I finally see why so many women choose to be stay-at-home moms.  It does seem pretty tempting at the moment, and I was sure I'd never see things that way.  Can I just live the life of Narcissa Malfoy now?
