Coming home to a house without a cat in it, is vastly different to one WITH a cat in it.
For 22 years, when I have come home after a holiday, I have been greeted at the door by Tigger or (the last six years) Coco.
It makes you feel loved when someone is THAT happy to see you. When they follow you around the house, waiting for you to sit down or lay down so that they can get in your lap and cuddle with you. When they butt against your hand like a very tiny goat, demanding some patting and stroking. When they wash you, and lie on your chest and purr.
Coming home this time was so depressing. No cat racing to see me. No cat following me all over the house. No cat desperate to get into my lap and hold me down. Just a big empty hole in my heart.
