An Eff for Effort

Halfway around the world in the span of four days was fatiguing. I slept like a rock for a few days afterwards but I kept feeling more and more exhausted. I saw my doctor, explained the situation, he sent me for some blood tests and a monoscreen. Everything came back negative except for the purple underscores beneath my eyes and the 16- to 18-hour sleep cycles. So, I saw my doctor again. We did further blood testing and a urinalysis and -- everything was negative once more.

The fever kicked-in along with the chills and I continued to remain at home, a walking (or sleeping) scientific anomoly. Last week, my doctor washed his hands of my problem and that forced me to see a second physician. One which I have not seen in close to eight years. Luckily, he's a little more thorough and a lot more proactive about shit like this.

So I'm off work. More specifically, short-term disabled. This will be my third week. This also means I will have to reschedule my training classes in Dallas and Santa Barbara. This will also create some annoyed people in those offices. I like my job but I hate the corporate world. If I go back to university as a part-time student this fall, I can grab a few credits for Fall 2007 when we'll be in Québec. At that time, I'd like to be finishing university and ready to teach secondaire or CEGEP.

Tomorrow, I am having a chest x-ray and a sinus x-ray. This is a followup to the echocardiograms. My heart is like one of those battery-powered dancing ballerinas except the batteries are shitty.

Last night, I slept from 9:30pm to 3:30pm this afternoon. It's fuggin' wild, I tell you. And I could've continued sleeping.

The irony in all of this will be how much money I've spent on new hockey equipment and how I don't even have the energy to put my new shin guards away.

And the answer is no, Heisler. No, you may not have my big-screen TV when I die.
