This sounds to me like it bears corroboration. All the pages out there on the subject seem to cite the same article, and that article presents no evidence.
Of course, it could be true. If your silver foil treats are marked "parve", however, that means they couldn't have come anywhere near meat (or, at least, that a rabbi is certifying that it has not).
