I think this journal is really just about The Office.
So I watched my last episode of The Office. Just the last episode I will ever watch and not the last episode of the show since it will go on into season eight this fall. I had originally stopped watching the show a quarter of the way through season 7. The plots no longer contained character development and instead focused on developing antics ad absurdum.
So when tonight I came across a mention of The Office I went back to it's hulu.com webpage where it is hosted and check to see how many episodes had been released. I think roughly 12 had come out since I stopped watching. I then went to wikipedia.com to read the plot for season 7 to see if anything interesting had happened.
The description of Michael leaving, which happens 4 episodes before the season finale, caught my attention so I looked it up to watch. The relaxed pacing of the scenes as Michael attempts to meaningfully and secretly say goodbye to each office member was a wonderful throwback to the style of the UK Office and the most powerful elements in the US office.
In the end we are left with Pamela watching Michael's plane glide across the expanse of the airports windows. I guess Pamela was a special character on the show as she was able to form emotional connections with just about everyone in the office. She was a great tool for allowing the viewer grow attached to the meaningful aspects of each characters lives.
In a testament to how shallow the show has become, I guess it is fitting the final episode of The Office occurred long before the show will be canceled. I'm just glad I stumbled across it.
