Summary: Helena's moved to a new school hoping to move on. By accident, she stumbles upon a group of wannabes, having no idea what she would get herself into. Heartbreaks, tantrums, mistakes.
A/N: OKAY I KNOW IT'S BEEN ALMOST TWO MONTHS DON'T SHOOT ME. O.O It's here now. Don't complain.
Jokesssss, I laaarve you guyssssss.
(But yeah. This is when the story HAPPENS.)
A/N 2: So erm, I had to rewrite this again. It was all ready to go on Thursday, but I was a twat and deleted most of it. And you know how LJ autosaves? Yeah, it did that. So.. this might be better or worse than my first attempt, but let's see how it goes.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Helena's reaction had been... frightening, she'll grant that. Eliza had this pit of guilt in her stomach. She knew she had gone a tad too far.. but at the time it seemed like the right thing to do. No-one is taking Gerard away from her. No-one. Not some British girl with weird hair and issues. Not anyone.
Yes.. she was hurting. I mean, she overheard the whole conversation that Helena and Jenny had. Which included the part where Gerard came to Helena's house to give her a note. A note that expressed Gerard's "feelings" for Helena. What a way to make her hate her more. What the hell did Helena have that Eliza didn't!? She couldn't get it around her head. She loved Gerard so much, and she wasn't good enough for him. Yes.. she'll admit that she's had some affairs, but she still loved him. A lot.
But he was being taken away from her. He was the only thing she had.. and Bob, she guesses. But when Gerard goes, she will be alone.
So Helena has to go down.
But she doesn't want to go down such a dark root by permanently destroying that person.. there's jail involved as well.
The next thing on Eliza's mind was Honey. Oh Honey. What the hell did that girl have anyway!? Music was one thing that Eliza could keep. Honey was stealing that from her. Her voice is okay she guessed.. but Eliza deserved more spotlight than she did. Honey was better at guitar playing. At the side of the stage.
She punched her pillow in anger multiple times, groaning words that didn't exist. Two girls were stealing the two things she loves. That's not going to happen.
But she got distracted by her train of thought when her phone screen lit up. Her eyes too lit up in hope that it was Gerard.. but no.
"Can I still see u 2day? Bob x"
She sighed. She liked Bob and all.. but he was only a quick fuck. Why did he have to keep bugging her?
--
"How are you this morning darling?" Honey asked, settling down the coffee and breakfast on the spare bed where Helena was sitting in.
"Better." Helena mumbled, rubbing her face sleeplessly. "Thank you for letting me stay. It means everything."
"You've said it thirteen times already! It's never a problem Helena, my Mom won't mind at all."
Honey was thankful that her Mom was pretty easy going.
"Mhmm." Helena stared at the warm mug of coffee in her hands, and the two girls sat in silence for a while, Honey watching Helena with interest and worry.
"Honey?" Helena spoke up, almost making her jump.
"Yeah sugar?" she replied, sitting upright on her own bed.
"I think I'm ready to talk about it.."
"Of course, of course!" Honey then moved to sit with Helena, and held her hand in comfort.
"I.. I don't know how he's got my number.. it doesn't make any sense.." Helena was trembling under Honey's touch, and it broke her heart.
"Oh darling.." was all she could say. She wasn't much of an advice giver.. more of a listener?
"And why Eliza just left.. I don't get it. I know she's a bitch and all, but I fucking.. fucking collapsed, and she walked away. It just proves that she's more heartless than I thought." Helena sighed and rubbed the sleep from her eyes, taking a sip of her coffee. She hadn't touched her bacon and eggs yet.
Honey just wrapped her arms around her and just held her, until she finally felt something damp on a shoulder. She sighed as Helena tried to keep in her cries, and she whispered that she could let it all out if she wanted to. And as Helena let loose on Honey's sleeve, she held her strong, and just tried to think about the situation.
There's a lot of unanswered questions. Plus, she was having difficulties dealing with her own problems. She hadn't told a single person about Eliza's threatening. Not even Frank. She doesn't want anyone to think that she's overreacting. All Eliza had been doing anyway is tripping her up. For the past few days, when she sees her in corridor she'll nudge her or stick her foot out so Honey falls or stumbles before adding "Don't trip up.". It was pretty weird, but it wasn't like, death threats anyway. But it still worried her..
The last time Eliza tripped her up was yesterday on the way into the music basement while she was texting. Wait... hang on a minute.
"Helena.." she said slowly, moving apart from her slightly.
"Yeah?" Helena sniffed in reply.
"You know Eliza asked to borrow your phone before you saw that, um, text?" she scratched her head, trying not to trigger any more tears.
"Yeah.." she looked confused.
"When you saw the text, she left without borrowing it." Everything fitted in now. Oh shit.
"Right.." Helena couldn't really tell where she was going.
"I don't think she needed to anyway." Honey sighed.
"Why?" Helena was looking more worried now. Crap. Should she just come out and say it? Well, Helena deserved to know the truth. Or, what she was sure was the truth.
"Me and Frank saw her texting before we came in. She never needed to borrow your phone anyway.."
"Don't tell me you're thinking that she would go that low." Helena interrupted, looking serious.
"As low as..?" she squinted slightly, hoping that they were on the same wavelength.
"Yep." Honey was almost scared by how serious Helena looked.
"I don't know Helena. How would she have got your number anyway?"
"She might have taken it from someone or something. I don't know. I don't care. I'm going to text that number and find out the truth once and for all." Helena stood up from her bed and suggested if they should get ready for school. Without waiting for an answer, Helena started to walk out of the room, but Honey realised that she still hadn't touched the food.
"You going to eat that sweetie?" Honey asked.
Helena bit her lip worriedly before changing her expression to what looked like a fake smile. "Erm, yeah. I will before I leave!" and she quickly scurried out of the room and down the corridor to the bathroom.
Huh.

So yesterday had been a fail. Maia didn't love him. Not even a little crush. It's not like he wasn't expecting her to.. but everyone always gets their hopes up. But he obviously let himself get too vulnerable. He wasn't sure if he should just give up with it or not. He didn't want to, because for some reason he felt like she would change her mind eventually.. maybe one day. He had to restrain himself from calling her. He wanted to talk to her every second of the day.. but he doesn't think that's a great idea considering what happened during the rest of the detention.
So Cemetery is an absolute madman. They both genuinely had to repeat their lines back to him ten times. The scene kinda went like so.
~~~~~~~~~~
"So, Toro, you first. Recite your line to me ten times." Mr. Cemetery sighed, leaning back in his big chair. Ray groaned, fed up of all this pointless shit. "Go on, stand up child!" he growled, and Ray worriedly did as so, coughing to clear his throat.
"Erm.. er, thou shall not disrespect an adult of more importance than a mere child." he spoke with no emotion purposely, just to piss him off. But er.. that didn't quite work.
"Hmm.. needs more passion I think, Toro. Hmm?" Cemetery almost seemed amused, and it caused Ray to go a little bit red as Maia sniggered. Fuck sake. But his attention got caught by Maia's slight tilt of a smile, it was crazy how angelic she looked when she spaced out. He kept staring, until his headteacher once again embarrassed him.
"Would you direct your attention over here please, Raymond?"
Ray swore under his breath and quickly spurted out the sentence nine more times and sat down in a rush, trying to hide his glowing cheeks with his semi-fro. Which made him look more of an idiot.
"Now, Keys, would you care to say your line to us?" Cemetery raised his eyebrows and grinned weirdly, sending a little chill down Ray's spine.
"Nah, I'm alright thanks." Maia yawned, leaning further back in her seat.
"That was not a question Miss Keys, I am ordering you to stand up and recite your words." he replied, enraged.
"No, you did ask me a question, and my answer was no. So, buh-bye." she answered back, and stood up from her chair and picked up her bag. She cheekily waved at Mr. Cemetery before turning around to leave the room, but his voice echoed through out the room.
"If you know what's good for you Maia Keys, you'll turn around, and say that sentence."
Ray shivered.
Maia stopped in her tracks, and slowly turned around, a smirk on her face. She took two big steps so she was standing right in front of the head's desk, and bent forwards so her face was directly in front of hers.
"Thou shall not risk another encounter with The System to save the time and money of the head in power." she spat.
"Cheek and rudeness will not get you anywhere." he replied with a bigger smirk on his fucked up face.
"What ever." she spoke as she stormed out of the room. Jheez, she's hot when she's angry.
And now, it was just Ray and Cemetery left in the room. Ray awkwardly looked at his desk, fiddling with his fingers.
"You may leave Toro." Mr. Cemetery sighed as he picked up a phone and turned around in his chair so he was facing out to the window. With no hesitation, Ray grabbed his bag and ran out the room, hurriedly searching through the corridors to try and catch up with Maia. No one was there to stop him, and his conscience certainly wasn't going to.
Hallway after hallway he jogged down, but to his delight he finally saw a glimpse of deep purple hair flying out of the school entrance, and Ray put all of his energy into sprinting after her.
But Mr. Raymond "Smooth" Toro was running so fast that he couldn't stop himself in time from crashing into Maia from behind, both of them splayed out on the floor.
"The fuck, Ray!?" Maia shouted as she gathered up her books and dusted herself off. Ray offered her a hand to help her up but she refused rudely and got up shakily.
"Erm, sorry." Ray mumbled, mentally slapping himself.
"Sorry? Sorry doesn't cut it sometimes. You've done enough for me today." Ray almost died from hurt. Maia didn't seem to care.
"I-" he tried to speak, but his voice was cracking.
"Listen, just quit following me about, okay? I don't want any company right now." and she walked past him, and Ray stared after her, watching her face of anger change to one of neutralism. But it was still beautiful anyway.
But suddenly she turned around, the wind tussling her hair in every direction.
"Oh, and no offence, but I think you should just get over me. It's better of this way." she spoke with no emotion.
Ray felt like his insides had been cut out and burnt.
~~~~~~~~~~
Ray couldn't stop replaying those words in his head the whole night. It was now the morning, and he was worried about facing the day. Because she would be there to remind him that he would not get over her.
--
What could he have changed? He could have stayed with Helena in her basement for longer to sort things out. He couldn't have gone at all. He could've actually acted normal with her when she started school instead of ignoring her. Maybe he should had never picked up her keys for her that day oh so many months ago. That would have changed everything. But this was reality, and he couldn't change a thing.
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
Helena was harming herself, and Gerard been a thoughtless bastard obviously didn't help.
After Gerard talked with Maia, he had walked right out of school and into the woods, just to think. He did go home at one point, but he got up early to come back the next morning. So here he was. Sitting on the same log, just trying to think what he could do change things in the present instead of worrying about the past. Because the past was gone now, and it wasn't ever coming back again.
Well, Gerard wanted to be a decent human being to her. He wanted her to know that she was loved by so many people. But.. if he loved her like that kind of love.. he didn't know. Like he had said before, a big part of his emotions was regret. But there was definitely something different with her. She was something special. He wanted to talk to her there and then, but as he searched in his pockets for his cell, it wasn't there. He had probably left it at home, for god's sake.
Gerard kicked a stone and set off in the direction of Carcerem Academy.
--
Jenny couldn't get the image out of her head of Helena falling. She had told Jenny everything about her dad and the text he sent, but when she received the second one the previous evening, it wasn't only terrifying for her but it was for the rest of them.
When she collapsed, Jenny had to take her phone while the other three tried to help her up. They asked Jenny what the text had said to make her pass out, and that was when she saw the message.
It was horrifying.
My perfect Hell. Why did you never reply to me? All I wanted was to see my beautiful girl. Your daddy misses you. But don't worry, I'll find you sooner or later. Watch out for me sweetheart.
It gave her goosebumps whenever she thought about it. The poor, poor soul. When Honey and Frank had taken her back to Hon's place, it was just Jenny and Mikey left in the basement. She was so shattered from all the happenings that day, that she just broke down into tears, not really managing to cope with it all. Mikey was instantly there to hug her lovingly, stroking her hair gently.
"It'll be okay Jen, I promise." he whispered, and Jenny pulled away and stared up at him.
"How can you promise that?" she said harshly, wiping her tears from her eyes fiercely.
"The same way you promise about not running away ever again?" Mikey replied sarcastically, raising one of his eyebrows and frowning. Jenny bowed her head in shame. "You try your best, but sometimes it doesn't go your way and you lose control. It's kind of the same with this. I can promise to the best of my ability that it'll be okay, but things might not go right. Yeah?" he tilted Jenny's chin up and pressed his lips softly to hers. She fell into his embrace once more, and felt safe.
It wasn't one of those sexual kisses full of want, it wasn't immensely passionate or exceedingly romantic, but it was perfect. They both stayed in the same position, lips locked together, chest touching chest. She didn't need any more than that.
When they broke apart, he asked if he could walk her home. She giggled in response and said yes, and he placed another kiss on her cheek before leaving the music room.
--
He didn't want to do it. That band was the only thing Bob had full hope for. But.. goddamn. He would do anything Eliza told him to. All in return of one night with her. She was spiteful, cunning and a bitch, but she was beautiful. Never could he imagine that he would fall in love with a girl like her, but to hell he did. To fucking hell. The day before, he was about to go into the room, but Eliza had pushed him up against the stair bannister and kissed him long and hard. It was like all the other times when she whispered in his ear, "You want more? Do me a favour.." and of course he would drop everything to obey. The favour this time? "Throw a tantrum and leave the band." At first he refused, but then she reminded me of what he would get in return.
Now? He had lost his friends, and the one thing he had going for hi. Was Eliza worth it? He hoped so. He does know her true colours and what she's really like, but he doesn't really care.
He knows that he's being used. Eliza doesn't love him a single bit, as she has Gerard. But at least it's better than nothing at all. He feels like the worst friend in the world to Gee, but he would do anything for a little sign of affection from her.
Now he had to face the day alone. Eliza would ignore him at school. He didn't have a single friend to turn to, if they would talk to him any more anyway. Was giving up the music worth it at all? But it was worth her.
Speaking of the devil..
I've done something bad. You're gonna take the blame for it. You'll get double the reward. Cheers baby, E x"
Bob sighed. What a work of dark art she was.
--
A week went by since the day of the detention. Maia didn't realise that she was slipping away from the rest of the world. But alas, she was, and she had to stop herself before it destroyed her. Ha, how could she stop herself?
She tried her best to make it up with Ray. But she couldn't remember anything they said. She asked Jenny how the meeting had gone, and while she told her all of these "horrific happenings" and "sad situations" she wasn't really listening. She asked Gerard if he knew what to do about Helena but she wasn't really taking in what he was saying. She tried her very very best to ask Helena how she was feeling, but everything went into one ear and came out of the other.
She drifted throughout her life, numb to everything. She was quiet in lessons, she did as her Cemetery asked her to, and she was good to her parents.
She didn't go to any meetings in the basement though.
She couldn't face it. She didn't want to. She had no energy left in her what so ever, no feelings, no emotions.
And she didn't know what was wrong.
Well, that was what she was telling herself. She did know what was wrong. She really did.
When she got home after her argument with Ray that day a week back, she sat in her room and tried to write a song. But she couldn't find much inspiration. That was when she heard the scream from her sister Iona.
"MAIA, WHATEVER YOU DO, JUST HIDE, FUCKING HIDE!"
The panic in her voice was enough to send her spiralling down into a never ending break down.
There were seven of them. They smashed down the door, all dressed in suits and sunglasses. Iona tried to hold them back as they asked her where Maia was hiding, but she didn't say a word. They pushed passed her and ran up the stairs, and searched through each room until they got to her's. They broke down the door and went through every cupboard and drawer, tearing apart each poster and painting on the wall. They took every stereo, iPod, CD and live DVD. Each guitar pick, drum stick, and amp disappeared. Even her blessed instruments, and her favourite guitar Delta, gone.
She heard all of this below her from the attic she hid in. Every single thing that was related to music was ripped away from her.
Her sister or parents couldn't call the cops. They were a fucking School Government Association. All this stealing was counted as confiscating.
The first time this happened, she put every living cell into gathering all of her possessions back, spending all of her college fund. Her parents understood that it was what she needed to do to get back to being her. Now it's happened again, and she has nothing. She was very certain that it would be hard, almost impossible, to regain everything again.
So that was why she hadn't been the same. Music was the only thing that kept her going, that kept her sane, and now it was gone. She didn't feel the need to move, to breathe, to pump blood around her body. Nothing mattered any more.
So she flew through life numb to the world, not caring any more.
The System had got her again.

"Right, so the Talent Show is in five days. And we don't have a drummer. I for one, don't want to have gone through all of this training and effort for nothing. We need someone who has a sense of rhythm and can pick up things easily. Anyone?" Gerard asked hopefully to the audience of six. Everyone looked at each other and exchanged nervous looks, and Mikey could tell that Gerard was getting impatient. "Come on guys, somebody? Honey, you're our star, fancy doing one for the team?" Gerard pleaded, and he actually got down on his knees in front of her. He heard Eliza next to him huff, and Honey went bright red and nodded. Gerard punched the air and kissed her cheek, and he even felt Eliza's cold air and tensed body beside him. She was always jealous of anyone who even breathed near his brother to be fair.
"So, we have a problem. What's a band without a name? I want you all to go off and have your thinking space, and we'll see who's got the best one!" it was weird to see Gerard so enthusiastic, normally his brother was moody and over tired.
For as long as he could remember, there was always some sort of feud or problem that would be eating everyone from the inside. Now? Things were.. okay. Bob had left, yes, and that was a shame. Maia too seemed like she had left, and she steered clear from anyone who tried to get an answer. Mikey had witnessed Helena and Gerard talking things over, and they both decided on a decent close friendship. He began to notice Eliza almost bullying Honey in the hallways whenever they ran into each other. He also remembered the next day when Honey actually opened to him, Frank, Jenny and Helena about it. He overheard Helena telling Frank about her problems (and Frank's crying), and Jenny also got permission from her to tell Mikey. Ray was far too quiet and depressed for anyone's liking, and he had started seeing a therapist. Everyone had also confronted Eliza and she had stopped tormenting Honey, so she was beginning to get nicer. Helena got so many texts from her dad that she had thrown her phone in a river so she'd never see them again.
So.. a lot had happened. And a lot had been cleared up. Things were getting better. But Mikey was the only one who had to be stable while everyone broke down. He had to be there for each person in turn, he had to be the strong one. But how long would it be till he too, lost all sanity? There were so many different situations to take in, and he wasn't too sure if he would be able to handle it a moment longer.
It didn't help that at this particular moment in time, Jenny wasn't there.
Astray.
That was the text he had received from her five minutes prior. It was her codeword for when she had to get away from everything and runs.. He had sent her so many messages back, asking where she was and when she was going to get back, but he didn't get an answer. She never answers, but he does it every time just in case.
He always finds himself close to shut down whenever Jenny runs. He just didn't want to lose her, she was his precious light, always finding him a way out of the darkness he gets locked up in sometimes. When she loses all sense of control and runs away, her flame gets blown out, and he doesn't recognise her. It's so heartbreaking for him, and he wasn't looking forward to when he was finally going to break down. Who was going to hold him up?
He held his head in his hands and tried to change his thoughts to his current task. Think of a band name.. but he couldn't, he could only think about him and Jenny.
They were both like chemistry in ways. One was a type of acid, the other was a type of metal. If reacted with the wrong atmosphere, one will explode, sometimes both.
But then his brain lit up.
--
"Never mind a band name, it's not like we're in the process of a debut album right now Gee." Helena groaned, headbutting the table. "We don't even know what song we're performing! And we need to do something easy for Honey to learn! We don't know the part though! What about-"
"HELENA! Helena, calm down. Anyway, I think we need new material for this. We have the fake comedy act all rehearsed and shit, I think we need something that fits in with it.. like.. the last line is "I promise it's the last time", so write a song kind of based from that? So it can fit in? You know? Helena.. you getting this or.." Gerard said, turning to see the British girl scribbling down a ton of notes on a piece of paper.
"Er... yep! But we have five days, we need to write it, we gotta rehearse it, we'll run out of time!" Helena was panicking, scribbling loads of pointless words down on the lined paper, her eyes frantic. Gerard grabbed her wrist, and inside she melted a little.
"Helena Lane. Calm your ass. We are not going to write it, you are going to write it! I trust you and your talent, and it will be amazing. 'Mmkay?" Helena nodded with a stupid soppy smile on her face. "Good. Come sit down Elena!" Gee asked, standing up from his seat and making his way to the Chair Circle (it needed a permanent name, Helena graciously obliged).
"Err, missed an 'H' there dude?" she laughed, shaking her head at Gerard's minor derp.
Gerard too laughed a little and shook his head. "That's my grandma's name. It's just the way I've always shortened your name in my head, haha. Now shut up and sit down, El." he winked, and Helena felt like she was going to fall out of her seat.
"GUYS, EVERYONE TO THE CHAIR CIRCLE!" His voice echoed throughout the room, and the vibrations made Helena shake herself. She still had pretty obvious feelings for Gerard, and vice versa, but they both agreed to forget about it and build a friendship instead to save the heartbreak. She was still allowed to flail about him to Honey and Jenny though, right?
"Right, let's go round in a circle. I'll start." Gerard began.
Helena took note of each band name in her notebook.
Gerard: The Used
Helena: The All-American Rejects
Eliza: Lostprophets
Ray: Be Prepared
Honey: Feel Revenge
Frank: Feel The Romance
Mikey:
"My Chemical Romance." Mikey spoke quietly. That caught everyone's attention.
"That's.. that's not bad at all Mikes." Gerard said, nodding his head slowly in approval.
"Really?" Mikey sounded thrilled to get praise from his brother.
"I really like the sound of that." Honey smiled, and Frank high fived him.
"Well, all in favour of My Chemical Romance, raise your hand!" Gerard spoke, and Helena felt so happy when she saw the look on Mikey's face when every single person, even Eliza, raised their hands.
It was great to see everyone finally at ease with each other, and with the world. Ray was on his way to recovery, Gerard wasn't so bitter, neither was Eliza, and everyone just seemed happy. Though she missed Bob. And Maia.
Helena wouldn't forget Maia. It's sad what happened, and she didn't know why, but maybe one day they might get close again. But she'll never forget her as the person who first understood her, who listened to her. She helped her more than anyone did, only because she was the first who took notice and did something about it.
For now, only memories remain.
But My Chemical Romance was now officially born.
--
Frank felt fucking fantastic. His girl was happy, his best friends were happy, he was happy.
"You good babe?" he asked while squeezing Honey's hand. She smiled at him and replied with yes, and squeezed back. He felt more relaxed now he got an answer. Ever since she told him about Eliza's weird-ass tormenting, he had to ask every day if she was okay to put his mind at ease.
"I'm glad." and he kissed her hair lovingly. She blushed brightly and a gorgeous grin appeared on her lips. Man, that smile threw him over the edge. He literally was the luckiest guy to ever walk this fucked up planet. She lit the place up.
The session had finished, and they had a name and a half written song. Things were looking up. Everyone was already on their way up, but him and Honey loitered at the back of the line, making out for a bit at the bottom before starting their journey on the dreaded stairs. Spirals were the worst.
As they finally overcame it and were greeted by the blinding light of the abandoned corridor, they were startled by seeing Eliza leaning next to the hidden door which they just came out of. She smiled at them oddly as they walked by. He felt Honey freezing up next to him, so he tugged her arm so she would face him. He gave him a look that read "It's nothing, ignore it!" and she relaxed again and squeezed his hand again in comfort.
But she stopped in her tracks and moaned.
"For fuck's sake, I've left my bag in the basement!" and she broke free of Frank's hand and turned around and walked back towards the open door that Eliza was still standing by. He felt empty as her touch wasn't there any more.
"You better hurry the fuck up, girl!" he shouted at her jokingly, and she heard her melodic laugh in return.
Then Eliza stood in front of the stair entrance.
"Don't trip up."
Those fucking three words came up again. Frank wanted to run up to Eliza there and then to knock her out, but the thing that happened next threw him off course.
Honey pushed Eliza out of the way. But she did with so much strength that she lost her balance.
Frank screamed so loud that he couldn't hear any more. He ran towards the top of the stairs, and to his utmost horror, he saw the girl he love fall.
Down the stairs.
The steep, iron, spiral stairs.
She kept on falling, down and down, and deeper down.
Until she landed with a sickening crack.
---------------------------------------------------------
A/N 3: So yeah, tada! I've decided to do a POV from each of the ten characters, to show each emotion and situation. But I know that around Maia's part things start to get a bit under explained. I did this on purpose, in case some people point it out. I did it because A) I'm a lazy ass, and B) She lost everything, so she's a bit distant from the rest of the world, you know? She doesn't know what's happened since. But Mikey's part was kind of meant to be an overview on what happened in that week Maia had drifted through. So yeah!
I'm so happy that I finally got off my ass and did this. Big things to come, and the story's just kicked off.
PS: I'm sorry...
Love Meg!
