Already late July, Ive kept myself busy working on the house, putting up gutters, redoing the lawn, digging a garden...etc. Looking forward to leaving for Chicago next week, then New Orleans and finally San Diego (gotta do the zoo thing again)....ending my summer with "The Nightmare Before Batsday" (dinner and bands)and "Batsday in the Fun Park" (goth gathering to say hi to Mickey) at Disneyland...
I also spent a lot of time buying items on EBay for my classroom next fall including novels on tape (My kids have reading problems and reinforcing their reading in this manner helps a lot) and items to use as rewards in my behavior modification program. For those of you who do not know, I am a Special Education Teacher and a big portion of my function is trying to get emotionally disturbed kids to behave well enough to learn in the regular school environment. I bought a lot of CD players and headphones to use in the CLASS STORE....got 12 players for an average of $10 each, not cheap ones either...they where discontinued models or floor samples, all in really good shape and working order so...I think I got a bargain.
I am very glad to hear that The Continental will reopen, although I can't see how the owner, Frank, can afford to remain in operation since the punk, goth, alternative scene in Buffalo is practically nil. The cost of putting in the type of sprinkler system that NYS requires is going to be more than the bar brings in in a year at this time, Im sure.
I remember the last time it was closed, upon the death of the, then owner Bud, about 12 years ago at that time we had another really good club, The Icon, to take up the slack...the city wanted the club to do all kinds of remodeling including putting in an elevator for the disabled to get to the DANCE FLOOR....never happened because it was finally decided that these modifications where not required because of the grandfather laws here in Buffalo ...
We do have a new club, Club Diablo, owned by Jessie a long time member of the Continental's Staff. I haven't been there yet, as I said I hardly go out at all anymore, I should check it out at least once this summer but I may not have the time or the money to spend with my vacation coming up.
Finally it seems to me that If all of the once, so called regulars would visit "The Cont" even once a month the bar would be packed...but alas I am guilty of non-attendance myself now...it seems going out is more trouble than it is worth. Well I think I've written enough for now...more than I've written in a long time for sure..
I hope you all are having a great summer...
