Yikes…I realised this over a year overdue. :”> I was given the letter E by ladyadeone, and I chose to do antagonists, whether they be villains or just people who make things difficult for the heroes ( Read more... )

;)) Thank you for commenting now! :)

Glad it meets with your approval, especially because it was so late. :">
Oh, yes; I first read them a few years ago---they're one of the few series that everyone in my family has read and enjoyed. ;)) I hope you enjoy it (and it's great that you're reading them)! :D
;)) I'm not sure if I should apologise or not. I haven't read much manga, but it's the best I've come across. The author does a good job of creating an interesting and complex story without getting too complicated, and her characters (and their relationships) are great---well-rounded and memorable. The author also raises a number of interesting questions/thoughts to consider such as responsibility for your actions, the value of human life, and what reaching goals is worth. Also, there's some really fun humour. ;)) I'd say it's probably PG-13 due to some violence and language plus semi-weighty themes connected to the storyline (there is a little sexual content---mainly connected to one of the villains---but it's pretty light on that level overall), but well worth it for the story. :) So, if you check it out, I'd be really interested to hear what you think. ;))

Yay, I'm glad you liked it! :) Mmhmm, the big twist wasn't a huge surprise, but I thought her world and characters were interesting and it was still a pretty solid adaptation. :) Do you think you'll pick up Scarlet?

:)

So far I'm definitely enjoying them. I've kinda stalled though because my sisters are wanting to read them with me and I'm waiting for them to catch up.
Thanks for the Full-Metal Alchemist info. :) I'll probably wait- I'm working on enough series right now as it is!

I've just finished Scarlet. Have you read it? I'm not entirely sure what I think of it yet, but it was certainly engrossing, more intense than Cinder, and I will be reading Cress when it comes out.

Yay, glad you're liking them! :) Hehe, yep, I know how that goes with slow progress because everyone wants to go at the same pace. ;)) How far are you all?
No problem. :) Yes, know what you mean about a book/series overload. ;))

Yes, I actually have! Mel and I have actually been discussing it---we agreed that we liked it overall, but the Scarlet/Wolf relationship kind of happened quickly. I did like how Wolf really wasn't trustworthy until the end, and the explanation of the alpha male instincts/alpha female amused me. ;)) Yeah, I'm looking forward to Cress too. :)

I'm about halfway through the first on right now. :P The sisters are about a chapter behind me.

It did happen pretty fast. Though bonding is said to happen faster under stress. At least it wasn't quite love at first sight... I'm not sure if I was able to keep up with Wolf's constant character revelations - after finishing the book I had to think back and try to figure out how genuine he was being at any given point. Then that explanation offered at the end was... sweet. I think I'll buy it/suspend disbelief.

My biggest concern was how wrong-headed Kai is being. Sure he's trying to do what he thinks is best, and is willing to sacrifice himself for his people, but how about asking them whether they would rather fight to the end or just submit quietly to becoming mindless slaves? His position reminds me of what the smaller countries of Europe must have suffered at the beginning of WWII, fruitlessly trying to fend off the Nazis. An awful situation to be in, and hard for Americans to imagine!

;)) Such is trying to get through things with sisters. At least you're making progress, though. :)

Very true; tend to forget about bonding under pressure/stress---it did feel like there was more going on than just a day or two should allow. Mmhmm, I think at the end, he was genuine about the tomatoes and food, and then the few times he seemed vulnerable. ;)) Yeah, you kind of just have to suspend disbelief sometimes. :)

Huh. I hadn't actually thought about it like that. Considering how many people were slaughtered by the LOP and how ill-equipped everyone in the cities (and probably over most of the Empire/world) were, I think he's just trying to buy enough time to come up with another plan, and I don't know if his people would actually fight. If he asks his people, I think the villainess would take it as an open declaration of war and attack without allowing any time for defenses to be built or training to occur; he probably thinks this is the lesser of the two evils, and I can understand where he's coming from. But now that you've put the parallel in, it's very chilling. I wonder if that is the direction the author is nudging?
