It's actually more fun than anything else. :D Though, every once in a while we get really serious and then it's a bit intense. But, yeah. I would actually really recommend a self-defense class; I'm really self-conscious and not really strong or brave or anything, but the class has actually helped. I'm a little more confident and don't think I'd be as self-conscious if I was in the situation, as well as having a better idea of what to do if I was put in the situation. Plus, it's just sort of good stuff to know. :) But, hehe, yeah, I was kind of scared about actually taking---it really helped that a girl I know from the engineering program is also taking it and that the class was a really good small group. :) So, my suggestion would be to take a class, but take it with a friend or sibling or something. ;)) ...Yeah, I'll probably lose my glasses if I ever get into a real fight. ;))
Thank you! *hugs*
Yes, I do. And I don't think she'd ever run across my lj, but then I also remembered that we're connected via Sounis so there's a really tiny chance she could... At any rate, I looked back at my post and realised it does sound kind of harsh, so edited a bit. Hopefully now, while I wouldn't say it to her face necessarily (because I'd never be that brave), it's not something I'd be embarrassed about if she ever happened to see it. Mmhmm, her books do tend to be pretty character driven. Sadly, though, I almost always end up not liking the main characters all that much. :"> If you're not interested in the fairy genre, but want to read one of her books, she recently wrote a sci-fi book called Ultraviolet.
Are you not interested in sci-fi as a general rule? It's got a moon colony and androids and ID chips and bioelectric manipulation or something, but otherwise it's almost more of a futuristic story than aliens and spaceships (...though it does have those a bit). Mmhmm, there are a few instances of language, but that's about it. And the romantic elements are definitely there but they're mild (if that makes any sense), too, which was really nice considering how much there usually is in YA books. ;)) If you read it, I'd really like to hear what you think. :D Even if you don't end up liking it, though I hope you do. Haha! Glad I'm not the only having issues with watercress. ;)) I think Mel's suggestion below is the most likely, though.
Oh - I didn't mean that comment about R. J. Anderson being on LJ the way it sounded. : P I was wanting to make sure you were aware so you could friend her if you wanted. Your comments were a little strong, but no moreso than some I've shared before!
Moon colonies are good. : D I guess most sci-fi just never appealed to me. I have read and enjoyed a few Star Wars "Extended Universe" novels (tho it's been a while) but that's the extent of my sci-fi experience. Likely if I started reading more of it I would become more interested. I've just always had enough fantasy and historical fiction material to keep me busy! : D There is never enough time to read everything.
Ah, I see. I didn't even think of that. ;)) But thanks anyhow---it did make me step back and look again at what I'd said, which is always a good thing. :) And thanks for the heads-up; I've not really thought about friending her because I think I'd feel a little weird doing it, though we do have some common interests.
:D Very true! I think it can be harder sometimes (at least for me) to find good sci-fi books, though I rather like the genre because I've grown up on it a lot in movies/tv shows/whatever. ;)) There are so many other books that are excellent and interesting, so I guess there's not as much as incentive to specially seek out sci-fi on my end. I think I need to go read some good sci-fi now, though, since it's going to bug me now. ;)) (Also, maybe it can be easier for authors to come up with laws about fantasy worlds than it might be for them to actually figure out what's theoretically possible for our world? Or maybe I just haven't been reading all the right sorts of books.)
Yeah, I think Mel's comment makes the most sense. Also, I think I saw that suggestion thrown out by someone else too. ;))

Mel's suggestion does sound very plausible. : D
