Miles doesn't surprise easily. Blame it on ghosts and disembodied voices, he figures; the unexpected's always around. So when he sees bitchy redhead and his nutso bunkmate tweaking some wackadoodle experiment on deck, no big. But Charlotte -- cute if she lost the sneer -- is smiling, the first Miles' seen anything beyond I-don't-give-a-shit. (Definitely cute.)
He steps closer and Charlotte edges between; sure Faraday makes suicide appealing but Miles isn't looking for trouble. Genius tosses him a breezy greeting, unfazed, gazing at Charlotte. That smile again, melting into a warning glare; Miles retreats, smirking -- and maybe, he thinks, there are some surprises left in the world.
