Title: Playing Dress Up
Characters/Pairings: Charlotte/Daniel
Rating: PG
Summary: Only her boyfriend, Charlotte thinks, could manage what's simultaneously the laziest and the nerdiest costume she's ever seen.
Disclaimer: Not mine.
A/N: Total AU; probably set in my happy-place universe where they manage to eventually leave the island in one piece. For mollivanders, who requested Halloween costumes and fluff in my prompts meme. It ended up being a touch longer than a drabble -- hope you enjoy!

----

It's Halloween and only her boyfriend, Charlotte thinks, could manage what's simultaneously the laziest and  the nerdiest costume she's ever seen.

"Seriously Dan -- a black hole?"

"What?" He pats down the front of his black shirt, gives himself an appraising look in the front-entrance mirror and dusts invisible lint from the matching pants. "It's funny."

Shaking her head, Charlotte still favours him with a grin, pausing to pick a piece of orange confetti -- a straggler from their own home's Halloween set-up -- out of his hair. "Sure."

"And what about you, Indiana Jones?" His matching smile's laced with affection, still teasing. "Real original, Charlotte."

"I got all this, didn't I?" Fussing first with the fedora's brim, she moves her attention to the bullwhip looped over her belt, punctuating the end of her words with a sly wink and not bothering to hide her smirk as the tips of Daniel's ear go beet-red.

"Just, uh -- be careful with that thing, okay?" Still blushing, Dan reaches for his jacket and misses, fumbling to tug it off the closet hanger. "You could hurt someone."

Keeping a straight face is a struggle; Charlotte manages a look that would maybe pass for sultry if she weren't biting back a snicker. "Isn't that the point?"

He groans out her name -- Charlotte, in long-drawn syllables -- along with a sheepish chuckle, slipping into his coat and then turning to tangle his arms around her torso, hands brushing past her khaki vest. "You're killing me here. And we're already late for the party."

"Fine, fine." She mock-pouts, shrugging on her own jacket and stepping out the front door. "You're no fun."

There's good-natured grumbling behind her -- I'm lots of fun, Daniel mutters to himself -- before the door clicks closed and locks with a firm snap, the feel of his hand warm and welcome at the small of her back.

"But you have to admit I look good in these shorts."

Daniel's laugh echoes, loud and bright, as they head down the stairs and into the autumn night.
