Running!

Its official - I've been hit with the runner's bug.  Or maybe its just the race bug.  I completed my first Peachtree Road Race in under an hour.  Yes, I was pretty speedy to complete 6+ miles in less than an hour!  The race in and of itself was fun, and would be even better if it wasn't so crowded and if people would walk on the right instead of among the runners on the left...

As a result of all the fun I had in these last two races, I've been trying to plan out what my future holds when it comes to running!  Its shocking - I didn't think this was an activity that would stick.  I thought I'd do one race with Team in Training and then move on to something else.  I had no idea how much it would touch my life and how much I would actually enjoy sweating it out on the streets of Atlanta...

I definitely want to continue my work with Team in Training.  It is, without a doubt, the most rewarding activity that I have poured my energy into over the last 4+ years of my life.  The knowledge that my running and fundraising efforts save lives is just amazing - and I want to continue to do this for years to come.  No, not for the "free vacations" or even the coaching/support that comes from TNT, but because this is such a great cause and I truly believe that I can make a difference when it comes to finding a cure for blood cancer.

I've also made some really great friends through this organization.  We are already talking about what's next on the horizon and have even started thinking about different fundraisers that we can do to raise money for this great organization.  In addition, Katie, Maria, and Erin have been encouraging me to hunker down and commit to running a full marathon.  As I've weighed it over and prayed about it, I think I can do it.  And that's exciting to say.

Originally I thought my future running schedule would go something like this:
October 2007:  Nike+ women's half marathon, run simultaneously with the folks in San Francisco
April 2008:  Country Music half marathon
October 2008:  Dublin (Ireland) half marathon
January 2009:  Walt Disney World Marathon!!! (you run through all 4 parks!)

But........
(1)  I can't do the Country Music half because my Converse 5-year reunion is the same weekend.
(2)  Dublin is a full marathon, not a half!  But the course is, miraculously, flat!

I really want to do my first full at Disney and I think it would be really dumb to do two marathons within a couple months of each other.  My body would never forgive me.  So I could possibly run the full in Dublin as a mentor with Team in Training and do the Disney half on my own....  hmmm.  Even better if my parents go on the trip, Will goes, and Erin and Brian go too.... ING is holding their marathon here in Atlanta again this year, so I could also train for that.

Now this sounds fun:  Disney's Race for the Taste 10K.  And there's the Disney "Women Run the World" Minnie Marathon 15K that's held in May that could be do-able.... so many fun things!

exercise, tnt
