you only sleep with girls who say they like your music

#1. It is Hillary Harrison's birthday. Hillary Harrison, as the most consistently witty/clever person I know, SHOULD BE CELEBRATED. Seriously, let us all take a moment to reflect on how we know that humanity can be okay because twenty years ago today, it produced THAT. Sister is special. Buy her something sparkly and/or edible and celebrate the fact that the world is a better, funnier, more interesting, more beautiful place because she exists in it.

#2. Covers That Are Genius/Add Something Significant to the Original/Will Make You Like The Song Even If You Didn't Before/Will Change Your Life in Minor Ways:

1. Matt Weddle covering Outkast's "Heyya"
2. Sun Kil Moon covering Modest Mouse's "Ocean Breathes Salty" (True pathetic story: I don't even like the original of this but the first time I heard this cover of it I totally cried. It was awkward.) They also cover "Dramamine" and "Tiny Cities Made of Ashes"
3. Chris Thile of Nickel Creek covering the White Stripes' "Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground"
4. Nickel Creek covering Britney Spears' "Toxic"
5. Rage Against the Machine covering Cypress Hill's "How I Could Just Kill A Man"
6. The Flaming Lips covering the White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army"
7. Ryan Adams covering Oasis' "Wonderwall" (NO SERIOUSLY.)
8. Ray LaMontagne covering Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" (Of the 97 people who have covered this song in the past couple months, this one's my favorite)
9. Leo Kottke and Mike Gordon covering Aerosmith's "Sweet Emotion"
10. John Mayer covering Radiohead's "Kid A" (I know it sounds dubious, but it works)
11. Sia covering Radiohead's "Paranoid Android"
12. Tori Amos covering Leonard Cohen's "Famous Blue Raincoat"
13. Paul Anka doing a Big Band version of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" (this is one of the weirdest things I've ever heard but quite interesting.)
14. The Talking Heads covering "These Boots Are Made For Walking"
15. Susan Tedeschi covering Led Zeppelin's "Rock & Roll"
16. Muse covering the old show tune "Feelin' Good"
17. TV on the Radio covering the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' "Modern Romance"
18. and, of course, Ben Folds covering Dr. Dre's "Bitches Ain't Shit"
Note: fyi, you can listen to a lot of these if you search for them on http://hype.non-standard.net

This week is going to be awful.
