Attached to a silver ring etched with running horses:
Moddie,
As you can see I have my workshop up and running, and I'm already thinking of you. I hope you like the ring, because I'm not sending you anything from Cibola. Mum would hang me by my ankles from a barn door. Man up and wait until you're old enough to run off and have adventures of your own. I'm sure you can sweet-talk Cy into sailing you to wherever you want to go, though I don't recommend Cibola: no libraries, too much mud, not a lot in the way of impressive horses. Besides, people would try to kill you a lot, and somehow it would be my fault according to the folks.
There's been all sorts of House politics going on, a right mess, but you shouldn't worry about any of it if you start hearing stories, since I'm sure it'll be sorted out soon. It's not as exciting in the city as you imagine, even with that sort of thing going on, since you really need to leave the city walls to have any adventures. If you promise not to annoy her, I'll see about inviting Celeste back to the ranch some time for dinner so you can meet her, since she's the most adventurous cousin we have.
No, I'm not going to tell you about "my girls." I don't know what our sisters have been telling you about me to give you that kind of idea. A respectable young lady doesn't speculate on her brother's love life, especially at your age. Maybe you should read fewer romances, and more books on the diseases of cattle. I'm sure you'd find the second kind more practical. Besides, there's nothing quite like really detailed descriptions of rare diseases to make Mum turn green over dinner. You should give it a shot. It's fun!
I have to check on some pottery in the kiln. Be good, and give the folks a kiss for me.
