PLD Merit thoughts

Nov 27, 2006 10:56

I was requested to come as PLD to Dynamis - Xarcabard this Sunday, which I was more than happy to change to since I've not been asked to come as that job for such a long time. So this was basically my first real chance to test out the tier 2 merits I got for the Job.

i'm pretty much always main paladin tank when i get to take paladin anywhere. with ethereal earring and capped shield skill, combined with autorefresh and parade gorget when applicable (and refresh and ballad), mp regen is awesome. as PLD/WAR, chivalry isn't quite that hot. but when you do a lot of PLD/NIN stuff, you're keeping hate almost exclusively through your usage of MP, so having chivalry at 15 min might help bigtime over the course of a long battle (ultima, fafnir, tiamat, etc). if you don't do much of that, though, then i'd consider it unnecessary to upgrade further ( ... )

The point about PLD/NIN here is very interesting to me. We've begun using PLD/NIN for a lot of things that we could and have used NIN/WAR for, but for whatever reason it's preferable that the tank has higher HP than a NIN/WAR can safely get. Perfect example here is Proto-Ultima. PLD/NIN can keep high enough max HP to survive Citadel Buster (no joke), have shadows up to protect himself after, and then Cure IV his way back to regaining his hate *as long as he has MP*. I'm not any sort of tank or anything but Chivalry always impressed me as the sort of thing that would be a lot better than ppl think ( ... )

Garret and Ono are buff galka's. They easily hit the 1700hp mark while with my current setup, 1700 is near my upper limit.

I'm a fan of Chivalry, but I have not put any points into the other abilities. On PLD/NIN though, having Chivalry not only gives MP back, which is then put into a quick Cure IV or two and a Flash, but I think the job ability actually acts as another hate spike.

Also, having the Homam legs is a huge bonus; MP+32 (I think?), Haste+3% and Fast Cast, which I think is very noticeable. Can't wait to get more Homam, especially the hands and feet.

yeah, we do ultima with 4 tanks. two nins, two pld/nins. the nins tank him all the way down to wtfpwn mode (with the pld/nins occassionally grabbing hate to help out, regularly curing the nins and flashing ultima to steadily build hate), upon which they pretty much lose any ability to retain hate while ultima is oneshotting people with citadel buster. then as you said, pld/nin can not only survive citadel buster, but surviving it coupled with popping chivalry and dropping a couple more cure IVs really locks in the hate. (though we have done it with 1 nin and 2 pld/nins, 13 people total. pure chaos, but a win nonetheless :D ( ... )

My LS is doing Ultima tonight; most likely 2x NIN and 1x PLD/NIN, but I may see about coming as a second PLD/NIN. Otherwise I'm going WAR/THF or benched (i.e. LFG on BLU). I should probably be racking up merits to cap Chivalry and get a few other merits opened or capped.

hahaha.. Don't get me started.

The person that won was a no body like you are saying.. and worse yet, he's a BST main.

And for the "other" group merit-wise, I really didn't have much of a choice other than crit up and down b/c I sorta play on both side of the fense in terms of end-game jobs. So I can't afford to put anything in enmity +/-.

DynamisX switched to a point system in September. The AF2 in Xarcabard starts out costing 16 points to bid, but you have to be 75 in the job to lot. I've spent a couple points finishing up the WAR set, and now have 18 points, more than any other PLD I am aware of that go with DX. So far I haven't seen any PLD body drop on any of the runs I've been on, but hopefully I will soon.
