"The Best Nevada Filmmaking Short went to 19 Miles to Vegas. The 7-minute film chronicles the journey of three friends who kiss their moms good-bye and move 19 miles to Las Vegas to begin their music career. 19 Miles to Vegas is the first film made by 25-year-old director Shane Valdez, a Las Vegas native. The short was originally made for the 48 Hour Film Festival in 2005, where it won the Audience Choice and Best Directing Awards. The film also won Best Short Short at the Rebel Hollywood Film Festival and Best Cinematography at the UCLA Film Festival earlier this year.
“CineVegas has always been known as a festival that provides great opportunities for up and coming filmmakers,” said Valdez. “I am so pleased to even have my film included in the festival, and to win this incredible honor is more than I could have expected.”
Valdez’s second film, Period Paragraph, an 18 minute short, recently premiered at UNLV Spring Flicks. Valdez will soon be opening Realm Films, his own film studio in Las Vegas, and has a number of other projects in the works."
