Today has been f*^king crazy! I am now hoarse, feverish, elated, worried, exhausted, and generally verklempt. Here's why:
-Woke up late (9ish), it was really nice to sleep in.
-Went to hospital early to pick patients, got on with the charge nurse who I really like, she's very cool and helpful.
-Got all my paper work squared away and went to check on patients.
-Both patients are out for a procedure.
-ok, fine with me. I still have a nasty head cold and didn't really want to work that hard today. Especially since tomorrow is my turn to be "team leader" where I don't have any patients but I have to over see all the other students on my floor and their patients.
-Found out that tomorrow there will only be one other student on the floor. Man did I luck out.
-Got a chance to take meds to one of my patients inbetween procedures. Which means that now I could follow to his next procedure. It was an Angiogram! I got to scrub up and go into the sterile theatre to watch them thread a wire from his groin to his brain. It was so totally awesome!! The anesthesiologist talked me through the whole thing. It was great.
-Got a call from my instructor, we were all leaving early so we could have a study session.
-Made it all the way back to my floor and my phone rings. At first I thought it was Mary from class wondering why I was late. then I realized that it was Mary my mother. So I called her back.
-Apparently my father had a CardioVascular event this morning and she had been trying to reach me all day.
-Race downstairs as I get all the details from mom. Dad's ok, they're at the hospital. OK great. I'm on my way.
-Run up to Mrs. Catrett and spit out that "I gotta go! Daddy just had a heart attack." A collective gasp rises from my group of classmates and I run out the door.
-Get to the door and text jnasser and mithrana. J is out the door and beats me to the hospital.
-I get through traffic and find a parking space only to find out that I'm at the wrong building, there is a new Heart Hospital across the street.
-As I run back to my car, I spot a baby bird. It fell out of the nest and it will die soon. I grab the bird, hop in my car and get across the street.
-See J, run upstairs. As I am running past the RN station, one of my students says Hi, what are you doing here? I point and say "that's my dad in there" and scurry into the room.
- Mom, Dad I'm here! Daddy, why the hell didn't you say something, anything to someone, anyone that you have been having chest pain for 5 days. Bad daddy! No scaring the daughter. And no dying!!! You have to see me graduate first. You may die next year in the fall, but no sooner!
-Snatch wheelchair to take mom for dinner as she and I are both STARVING.
-Get to cafe, get food, feeling more human. Ok, what the hell happened.
-Find out that they may have caught it in time and are keeping him for observation. wheew!
-Come home, build nest box for bird as J searches for pictures to find a match. It's a dove....we think.
-Have lovely time giggling at baby bird eating out of my hand. very messy.
-Call mother, realize that my voice is giving out (still have nasty head cold).
-Take medicine, play video games.
My father is fine. It worries me because the man has had 5 heart attacks and one major stroke with several transient events following. Mother is not well and doesn't handle stress as well as she would like. (yes mother, I will fuss over you. You can't stop me.)
Will post updates as they come. He's probly flirting with the nurses.
Dirty old man.
