Two Towers Redux

Dec 28, 2002 15:59

I confess: I always found the Two Towers hard slogging for reading. I have vivid memories of lying across my bed on grey February afternoons, eating Volcano Rocks candy (not pop Rocks, these were a powdery center with a hard shell) and reading page after endless, droning page, and fighting the temptation to skip to the good bits with Sam and Frodo.

The movie was fabulous! The Ents were so well done, but Saruman rushing here and there like a distressed maiden aunt was a bit much.

Lovely, lovely Aragorn/Legolas moments. Even better Frodo/Sam moments. LOVED LOVED LOVED Sam talking about stories.

"It's your Sam. Don't you know your Sam?" The possessive just seems so right. I'm still sniffling an hour after leaving the theater.

Needed kissage, dammit.

And I've read too many commentary pieces. Yeah, sure, these fair haired blue-eyed Rohirrim are slaughtering the swarthy tide of bestial creatures that threatens to overrun them. Makes sense to me. Thank you so much, Michael Moorcock.

But still, Frodo/Sam meltiness.
