Notable injury
So, went to a Realms event this weekend... turned out not so hot. Had a collision with another player, broke my face in a few different places... no really. Multiple fractures, in particular orbital and zygomatic fractures. So, in retrospect, I wonder if creating an LJ account explicitly for documenting injury didn't somehow jinx myself a little.
Tomorrow I have an appointment with an optometrist to make sure my eyes are ok. Apparently, my eyes could effectively be out of alignment. This should not be a problem, it is primarily a preventative step.
Friday I'm slated to go in for surgery. Plates and screws for the left cheek. Hooray for Titanium!
Sadly, this means no work for at least 2 weeks, possibly a little longer. I know I've been feeling like I could use some time off, but that's a hell of a way to get a vacation. My medical insurance covers disability time, so I'm not going to completely eat the time I'm away from work. But all the same, I'm actually anxious to get back to work. I've only got a few weeks until the academic year starts, and this is going to preempt me from participating in a large amount of the planning for unit themes with the other teachers for the upcoming year.
My parents are already a little annoyed with me. Not because I went and got myself hurt, but because I told them I'm not ready to bail on Realms. I guess they figured mashing my face in would get me to "outgrow my little hobby." ... Man was my dad irritated when I told him the doctor said I should be ok to fight again.... all be it in a few months :-(
