Little Dorrit, Part II: Jailhouse Rock

Apr 05, 2009 20:56

I will try to spell the character's names right this time :P

I am excited!! But I will try to post more than just squee.

I just recognized Mrs. Clennam! She plays the Queen in something! What? Wait, is it Ever After? Am I crazy?

I'm not! She is! I just checked.

Awwww, poor John. I want somebody to say of me, "You're looking smart today!" And his Proposal Outfit is darling. But John, did you really think after she tried to run away from your proposal that she was going to say yes? He just looked, I don't know, more blithely hopeful than seemed warranted. To maximize the contrast with his weepyface, I suppose. Poor kid. I like how they've played the scenes with him so far.

---
On the other hand, I think they're coming on a little strong with Mr. Dorrit's greed for "financial tributes." We got the point last week--why harp on it?

I wish we could see a little better what Arthur sees in Pet. She's such a nonentity thus far. One wants like Amy better, but one wants to have some respect for Arthur's taste.

---
Also, why does Pet seem way too young for Arthur, while Amy--though certainly very young--seems more appropriate? I suppose it's her maturity and the calm, sober colors she wears.

I'm glad they've let Mr. Baptiste say something other than just "outro, outro" (sp?). They've made him seem rather dimwitted and clownish so far, I don't know why. Because all Italians are clowns, and all Frenchmen are grotesquely evil?

---
OMG Doyce is a STEAMPUNK INVENTOR!!!!!!!!

---
What? What??? Who just got killed? I picked the wrong moment to get ice cream!

---
Mr. Merdle looked familiar. Who was he? Anybody know?

Awwww, Amy looked so cute sitting behind the harp in Flora & the rabbi's house.

---
Say what you like about Flora; I love the way she talks. LOVE.

---
"Someone much younger than Flora." Ouch, Arthur! That was in very bad taste.

*hugs Amy* I love the filming in this scene below the bridge by the river - nice colors, blue and gray and that brilliant green seaweed/moss, and the neat angles. Well done.

---
Noooooo she threw away the button!

---
Well, Arthur's paid back for the Flora comment. I can't believe she let him get the whole proposal out before telling him she was engaged. That was terrible. Gosh, it's one of those real film cliches, isn't it, that as soon as someone says "No, let me speak first" it would always be better for them to let the other person speak first.

HARRIET WALTER!

---
What? That's it? I thought it went until 10:30 - it's only 10:20. I feel bereft :(

Overall, not quite as tantalizing as last week, but very good, especially the first half. Basically every scene with Amy. Amy and John, Amy and Arthur... She really carries the whole series, doesn't she?
