RECOMMENDATION SUNDAY
This week's theme is 'Stuff I Watched/Read/Listened To This Week.' I know - genius.
BOOK: I just finished reading The Jewel in the Crown by Paul Scott for a class. In addition to being a tasty Indian restaurant in Newburyport, whaddaya know, it's also quite a good book. It's LONG and took me ages to read, but if you're interested in the history of the last days of British rule in India (setting is the 1940s), it's darned instructive as well as fascinating. Rich setting, complex characters. By no means a happy story though...
FILM: I showed my class Down With Love this past week as part of our unit on gender representation in films. And considering how noticeable the gender stuff is when you're not looking, you'd be amazed how much more there is when you start! Rolls everywhere :D Plus it's very funny and there's The Ewan McGregor Factor to reckon with.
SONG: Jason Mraz, "I'm Yours". The lyrics are obnoxiously "To the Virgins to Make Much of Time" but dang it, the music is catchy!
