Today's theme is Crappy Music.
BOOK: In case you were wondering where I found those
terrible songs, I owe at least half the ideas to Dave Barry's
Book of Bad Songs. This book cracks me up every time I read it. It's the results of a survey Dave Barry conducted in the '90s where he asked people to write in to his column about songs they absolutely hate. The response was massive. Most of the songs are from before my time but the lyrics quoted and Dave's writing style are enough to make one flinch in horror and snort soda out one's nose laughing at the same time. Plus, it makes it fun when I catch one on the radio and say "Hey! This is a Bad Song!" (Inevitably I offend someone who luuurvs it.)
MOVIE:
Moulin Rouge goes with this theme because it is full of songs that really are quite bad (including a couple from the Book!) but somehow, through the alchemy of Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman singing, are turned solid gold. No doubt you've all seen this, so I'm recommending a rewatch. Truth! Beauty! Love! Narcolepsy, midgets and elephants!
SONG: I tried to think of a bad song that I actually enjoy (or why would I suggest you listen to it?) and came up with
"Can't Fight The Moonlight" from Coyote Ugly, an extremely bad movie which I also enjoyed.
