A Lot of Nonsense

Mar 27, 2008 10:31

Announcement! Just want to say sorry I have been a lame ljer lately. I know I haven't been commenting much and my posts have been few and somewhat cranky. Apologies on both counts, and I shall try to mend matters forthwith.

And now for a bunch of random crap.

1) WHY CAMERA PHONES WERE INVENTED, Part 3:
The Badly-Placed Price Sticker

This caught my eye in Borders, well, for obvious reasons. It's the "bad-attitude gymnast movie" Stick It, by the way.

2) I'd slowed down on Supernatural since moving and am just starting to pick back up (in the middle of season two). It's funny; my one complaint with the first half of S1 was lack of overarching storyline... then at the end of S1/start of S2 the "mythology" stepped up and got awesome [SPOILERS!!!] (all the stuff with the yellow-eyed demon and their dad, crescendoing with In My Time of Dying, far and away the best episode yet), but now it's not quite as good and I'm wondering why. I was tempted to say there was too much mythology (all that stuff about Sam's visions, and the midnight's children, and dear old Dad asking Dean to kill Sammy if he goes postal), but thinking it over I'd say the mythology is just not intricate enough to warrant all the time spent on it, and lacks forward momentum. They have the same discussions over and over. Now that they have a Grand Scheme, I find myself wishing they'd have some story arcs outside of it! A nice ep like S1's "Faith", a one-off but with real stakes, would be great right now.

Don't get me wrong - it's still an excellent show. I'm just nitpicky.

3) MUPPET FANS, read this. At first I was really disturbed, but I don't know... he talks a very good game...

4) Reading/book geeks, I just discovered a lot of lovely tempting things at Surlalune's Cafepress shop. Also fabulous fairy tale stuff, as one would except.

5) Speaking of Cafepress, I would like to debut...

(small print: "Throwing girls into the path of rich men since 1813")

And that's all the nonsense I can think of for now, folks.
