As it turns out, I wasn't exaggerating or going crazy; my bone and cartilage are melting away, and my TMD/TMJ is two skips shy of You're Officially Fucked, affecting my right ear and my neck as well, and with luck expensive dental wear and possible braces are in my future (again), though with luck no surgery, and also by the way endangering my job (I speak for a living).
At this point, I figure I have three options:
1. Shoot myself.
2. Shoot myself.
3. Remind myself other people have it worse, and gosh darn it, I'm lucky.*
So in honor of surely-this-can't-get-any-worse, let's talk about the good stuff.
1. My birthday rocked. C. got me flowers and a VERY fabulous lunch including fancy al-qui-hall at
Ken Rathbun's Blue Plate Diner (I'm sorry, when you do truffled asparagus you are no longer blue plate), followed by whatever I wanted from Central Market. YES. There was a party, and BRILLIANT charades (how you know your friends are awesome, part one: they successfully charade both "neurotransmitters" and "The Knights Who Say Ni!"), and
a song written for me (how you know your friends are awesome, part two). I am loved. :'D
2. My nuclear family and friends are all alive and healthy and incredibly fun to be with.
3. My insurance will pay for most of the very expensive treatment I need, and I have a flexible spending account that will cover a large chunk of the rest. Blessed, blessed, blessed.
4. I'm moving to a place most people only get to visit on vacation.
5. My boss has TMJ, too, so she really sympathizes.
6. I was given an Amazon gift certificate and I am TOTALLY splurging on myself:
Muse's latest and this
pen, the swiss army pen of fountain pens.
7. I have not been eaten by a shark.
8. I work with fantastic people and genuinely like my job when it's not being stupid.
9. I love writing, reading, and running, and I do all three pretty often.
10. I can't eat hard foods, so I get a chance to make all my soup recipes. (I love cooking.)
I hope things are going mostly well for ya'll, too. Please feel free to pause and tell me what's going on that's great for you!
*And probably read fanfic and talk about pretty boys if things start feeling grim.
