I may be on the edge of addiction, or at least mild fandom. The character design (which reminds me of PPG, and that's NOT a good thing for character design at least for me) put me off, but I did watch the episode nefaria suggested above. That one was a good start and I started like Twlight Sparkle as she seemed, at first, to be the only logical one around. Too bad she flipped 180 near the end for a bit... but it is a simplistic kiddie show. It also shows that this quiz is probably amiss or it's a big stretch to make Pinky my "best fit" - energetic, sure, but so... annoying.
I then decided to watch the first episode and found it was a two-parter. The whole dark/night as evil thing put me off but I went along with it. The climax was almost Captain Planet-esque but managed not to be that irksome. This also showed Twilight wasn't all that bright in some ways.
Some time ago I decided that I'd give a show that wasn't amazingly bad (eg: Waynehead... harf-harf-harf. I tried to watch an entire episode. Tried. I just couldn't take it.) a chance by watching three episodes. The introduction episodes are sort of different from the rest as they ARE the introduction. So I watched the next episode... in short bursts. Seems I can only take a few minutes of some of it at a time but couldn't just quit. I expect now I'll likely watch the rest, if only slowly. No marathons for me.
However, I refuse to use the term "brony" to describe myself. I find it an amazingly ugly word. Then, I never cared for "bro" itself.
And besides, you think I wouldn't end up watching something with equinity? At least giving it a chance? Come on. I don't understand rabid fandom, but I can see a quiet appreciation.
I've heard of MLP fans denying being furry and such. I think it may be a fear of self and the silly "furs are bad" meme propagated by some web sites that specialize in hate. MLP might be a "gateway" to furry for some. I expect furcons will see more equines, even if they might look a bit funny to me. I prefer a slightly more realistic look.
