I have completed my top for the reception! What's more, this weekend I happened to find a perfect skirt (pale pale cream crinkle silk, ankle length), and perfect shoes (1 1/2" heel, taupe suede Mary-Jane style). All I need now is a shell to go underneath the top...you'd think the fall season Career Wear sections would have plain silk (or even rayon) shells! No such luck. I've been to Macy's, Avenue, Dress Barn, Building 19, Dots, Sears, and several others, and NO ONE has them in a color I'd even consider WEARING, never mind color I'd like for the reception. I'm not THAT picky...a deep red, a rust, a russet, a gold, a goldenrod, a harvest orange, a bronze, a copper, a deep chocolate... The caveat is it has to have actual bands, not spaghetti straps, since I don't want to be showing off my bra straps. And it can't be a knit (cotton, poly, etc), becauise it will be going under a sheer cotton, which will ensure I am constantly adjusting my shirt when it gets bound up every time I move.
And why WHY WHY are neons back?!? Jebus! I had to pick up a polo shirt today for an upcoming gig, and aside of the black one I did buy, the colors were neons, neons in unflattering combos (pink and yellow horizontal stripes, Traffic Cone Orange with pink collar), or just pain WRONG (dark eggplant with pale blue collar and banding). Oh, and WHITE white. The kind that gets dirty as soon as you look at it.

The other good news? I was trying on jeans this weekend (at Building 19), and for the hellof it, picked up a pair of 16s...which FIT! Name brand, no less. Alas, though they were only $9.99, they were tapered legs; though my ass looked fan-frigging-tastic, I looked like a funnel. And I could not find any boot-cuts smaller than a 28 and bigger than a 4.
Right. Off to make dinners. This evening's menu will be Maple Chipotle glazed pork chops, served with roasted fennel and apples, jasmine rice, and a small salad. Fennel, chives, and tomatoes provided by my mom and sister's garden. Mmmm, veggies with flaaaavor!
And for dessert later? Brigham's peppermint stick ice cream.
