He'd fallen asleep holding her. His cheek resting softly against the top of her head, her draped in a soft pink blanket and curled against his shoulder. One hand placed softly on her back, the other underneath her, supporting her, comforting her. She'd been crying, but two minutes with Daddy and she was an perfect angel. Susan wanted to be jealous, but she couldn't manage it.

They couldn't stay like that, of course. When he was sleeping, he had no idea if he was holding a bag of chips or a newborn baby. He could slump down, roll over, move at all and she'd fall. Though... the way his face was softened, it was hard to be sure. Maybe even in his dreams he was aware of the precious burden on his shoulder. They were well-matched, father and daughter. Susan nodded a little at the thought. So many mothers didn't have that for their children... Vee would be lucky. A supportive family that reached well beyond the bounds of her apartment was the best gift she could give her little girl.

She leaned down and lifted Vee gently away from Chuck, wrapping her in her own arms and smiling down at her. The baby shifted a little, but didn't wake as she carried her to her bassinet and laid her down. She'd be up soon, no doubt, probably needing a change or a feeding--Susan was still adjusting to her daughter's schedule, not to mention to the idea that she had a daughter. But for now, she could stand over her and watch her sleep.

Her daughter.

For anyone who missed it at the party and was curious, I'm jumping canon here because Suz can't spend the entire summer pregnant. For now, the baby is a girl, Varian Lewis-Martin (Martin-Lewis?), born Tuesday, 5/11, seven pounds twelve ounces. The name will change, and the gender might (50/50 chance I'm right) once NBC deigns to mention Suz again. Which, actually, seems like it might be a while. But in any case, references to Vee do not mean someone else has gotten a cat. Suz just finally delivered.

And yes, I did consider having it be a boy named Milo :)
