Susan stares at the blue glow of the television relfected on the ceiling. The baby's moving and keeping her up, and not even infomercials can bore her to sleep. Suddenly, a grin appears on her face, and she grabs the phone and dials, snickering.

"Jerry? Yeah, is Abby there?"

*grinning*

Here, this should be right up your alley right now... *papers rustle*

The parents of a 7-year-old boy divorce. The boy lives with the mother and sees his father every-other weekend. During these visits, the boy is sullen and angry with the father, but when it is time to return home, he clings to the father and cries in a desperate manner while saying "I'm sorry! I want you and mom to live together again." Which of the following is the most helpful statement that the father can make to the son?

A) "Big boys don't cry."
B) "I left your mother, I didn't leave you."
C) "I'll see you in 2 weeks."
D) "You're the man of the house now."
E) "Your mother was too hard to live with."

You missed the one where the father scolds the bratty kid for bugging him... what if we had a major trauma right now?

Do you?

*looks over to the board*

Belly pain, twisted ankle, shallow knife wound, the usual. For now.

*smirks* You must be so bored if you're calling me at almost three in the morning for review.

I can't help it. I don't need a juicer that also deseeds and when you flip it over, it peels... do I? No. I don't.

You're not answering the question.

Which one, whether you need a juicer? I'm afraid I'm not qualified to answer that.

*sighs* OK. I forget the letters, but the "I'll see you" one is avoidant--just doesn't address the little boy's concerns at all. The "you're the man of the house" and "your mother was too hard to live with" pass the buck, and the "big boys don't cry" is just mean.

What was the other one? "I left your mom, not you"? That one.

*rustle* Yep.

OK, next one... no... no... rheumatologist? No. No... OK, here we go:

A 75-year-old woman presents to the physician with a chief complaint of vaginal spotting. She has been postmenopausal for 25 years and does not take hormones. An ultrasound shows a mass in the uterine fundus. A hysterectomy is performed, and pathologic examination of the removed uterus reveals a malignant tumor of the endometrial glands and stroma. Which of the following is the most likely diagnosis?

A) Endolymphatic stromal myosis
B) Endometrial carcinoma
C) Endometrial stromal sarcoma
D) Leiomyosarcoma
E) Malignant mixed mullerian tumor

Oh, joy. Oncology. Help me, Aly...

OK. Both the endometrial glands and the stroma? Malignant mixed mullerian tumor.

*whispers* You should see the look Jerry is giving me...

Aly?

*rustle* Right again. You have been studying.

Why? Put him on, I'll find him something to do.

Oh, thanks for that vote of confidence, Suz. You're too kind.

She's another nurse I'm living with--hey! Did I tell you Rob left?

*laughs* Uhm, I don't think that's necessary. Got a walkup, five nineish, blonde, red dress...

*sighs* I have every confidence in you, Abby, but I wonder about your study habits sometimes. I know if I lived in a house with *pauses* how many of you are there now, with the new nurse and Rob gone? Anyway, a house with that many people, I'd never get anything done.

*snorts* Whatever keeps him busy.

There are four of us right this second--me, Clare, Aly and Smecker, who's an FBI agent, don't really know too much about him yet. It wasn't just Rob, it was Rakj'a and Arusha, too, so we're down by almost half. But there are... prospects. Maybe.

Huh. That's a shame--he seemed like a decent guy, no matter what he said about himself. But... prospects? What prospects?
