[ History ] :
Lifestory of a Gambler

[ Personality ] :
A gambling vagabond who finds freedom from society's narrow views of morality in the skies. Thus is the libertine gambler, Setzer introduced to us in Final Fantasy VI. While we only get small glimpses of the man he is before the events of the game, theres enough to see that he's easy-going, confident and has a largely optimistic outlook on things. Anything which tries to rob him of that outlook; such as the idea his friend Darill dying, he fiercely rejects and refuses to even consider.

Unfortunately when the reality of her dying did occur it shook him so badly that he seems to decide to withdraw from the world, first gathering the debris of the Falcon and rebuilding/storing it away within Darill's tomb and then taking himself to the skies where the only person he really has to answer to is himself. After all, if one keeps themselves away from people and thus refrains from getting close to them, there's no chance to be hurt once again should they be lost.

Setzer also turns to various vices to distract himself, gambling and thrill-seeking among them. It is thanks to his impressing his desires onto a lady named Maria (that looks surprisingly similar to Darill), that enable the party to meet him and eventually draw him into their group. In their company, the man, despite his initial efforts to remain separate, ends up counting the group as friends and becomes a rather stalwart companion.

Unfortunately, it would seem that just when the man might be making a comeback from his shell-shock over losing his first friend; events, or rather Kefka throws a wrench into the works and Setzer falls into depression once separated from the group. Wasting his time drinking (and likely gambling) in a bar within the city of Kohlingen. When first approached he seems to have gone back to not wanting anything to do with the world again, having lost any hope he might have held with the loss of his ship, the Blackjack (not to mention until they show back up, he seems to believe those in the group are most likely dead). It takes Celes talking to him to convince him to in a sense quit running away from his losses and face them instead. This causes him to take the group to Darill's tomb and finally accept the Falcon as his, bringing it out of storage and finally laying to rest what remained of his denial and grief involving the death of the woman whom had owned it.

[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
Strengths:
- Stamina, Speed and Strength. Those three all go together in apparently enabling him to turn common things, dice, darts, simple playing cards, even money, into quite deadly weapons. Even at times killing things upon impact of the object.

- Piloting/Airship skills. The man ends up owning the only airships in the entire world and until he teaches someone in the Returners how to steer the ship, likely the only one who knows just how to pilot it and how they work.

- Red Cards: These are special cards which are only used when Setzer is in a critical state of health, he can throw three of them at once at an enemy to afflict them with powerful non-elemental damage.

Weaknesses:

- Vanity. Despite the scars he bears, Setzer is quite vain about his appearance, he dresses with an eye toward looking good and it seems to stand apart from the crowd. It is even referenced amusingly in the game that Setzer refuses to wear the same things as Locke, in that while he comes into the group wearing a bandanna, once its removed, he can't wear it ever again.

- Darill. It might seem strange perhaps to have a person listed as a weakness but in a sense the woman is a large part of why Setzer is how he is when the party meets him. Losing her caused him to withdraw from the world, the waiting he no doubt endured during the year before the crash site of the Falcon was found had to have been rather painful for him, not knowing what had happened to her and upon finding her dead he seemed to have decided that to not have to suffer that kind of pain again, the best idea would be simply to keep people at a distance from him. Due to this he comes off as unlikeable at first.

Strength & Weakness:

- Slots:

Due to the nature of this ability of Setzer's, I'm treating it as if it's an innate ability the man has. The slots are similar to a mental spellwork and Setzer has somewhat rather limited control over the outcome of the spell. He can hope for one effect, and maybe get it if fortunate. It's largely up to chance which is really just fine with the man really. What is life without some risk eh?

Prismatic Flash (7-Flush): All Diamonds
Deals non-elemental magic damage to all enemies.

Chocobo Stampede (Chocobop): All Chocobos

[ Sample ] :

For some reason he almost half expected to wake up to see the world once again in ruins. Absurd perhaps, but likely caused by the dream he'd had before waking. The sensations of it were similar to those he'd felt once before in an event he'd like to not recall again right now. Once he woke up a little further however, several things of note begged for his attention, the first being that he was soaking wet, his clothes clinging to him as if he'd just been dumped into the ocean.

The second only served to add to the silent growing alarm that he wasn't on the Falcon any longer. Had something happened to her? It was the only explanation really for how he might have gotten dumped into the water that he could think of. He hoped silently though for a different explanation, he'd already lost the Blackjack. Fate surely wouldn't be so cruel as to rob him of The Falcon as well would she?

The feel of his foot hitting something and the sound of it moving over the ground thankfully distracted him from those morose thoughts and he turned his attention to the device and then once it was picked up, to his surroundings. "Just where am I now?" The following question of just how he'd gotten here rose to mind but for the moment remained unspoken.

D_M: Setzer meets Kefka x2
