The Hallows. They be deathly.

So my father and I went to see Deathly Hallows I in the IMAX tonight. It was freaking awesome. I have been out of HP fandom for so long and was so disappointed with the last two books that I had honestly forgotten what was so awesome in the HP-verse. After Dumbledore and Snape's deaths and the shoddy writing, I really felt that there was nothing left for me to enjoy in the HP universe.

Deathly Hallows I reminded me of all the things I love in HP. The atmosphere and the tension were masterfully done and the kids have really grown up. They've all become respectable actors, as opposed to the cringing I did all throughout the first movie. The last movie I saw was the third one; after that one, I was so aggravated with the crappy werewolf and the cutting of the so many of my favorite scenes, I gave up on the movies.

They have now been redeemed. I actually will be netflixing 4 through 6 before part II comes out. Also, Harry's growing up hot. >.> I mean . . . okay, bein' cradle-robber-ey. But. Yeah. Total cutie.

I haven't picked up Book VII since I finished it (the day after it came out), so I don't remember everything super clearly, but I think the only thing they added was the scene with Harry and Hermione dancing in the tent. I thought that that scene was great and didn't get a hugely shippy vibe from it, but I know that some fan had to go a little batty when they saw it (either for or against). I just felt that it emphasized their isolation and dependence on one another. And, yeah, there was UST at the very end of the dance for a moment, but I don't think it was really out of desire for one another so much as the sheer loneliness they were both facing. The book lost so much of it's effectiveness because the emotion impact of the circumstances were seriously diluted by the writing. The movie conveys that much more effectively than JKR did. I don't know if it was awesome directing or just an advantage of the medium, but the trios trials, Snape's straits, and Voldemort's wrathful desperation are all beautifully rendered.

So, overall, I liked the movie. A lot more than the book. And I have now remembered that I love you HP fandom. And I miss you.
