So. Yesterday nightrider101 left my little kingdom and returned home to her dog. We had a great time, and it saddens me to think how much time will pass until I see her again. Also, I  no longer have an excuse not to learn for my exams.

In other words: despite her being gone, I still don't have much time for internetting. There are lots of comments still waiting ( Read more... )

I had planned to write a review of Torchwood once I had the time for it, but after watching Children of Earth decided against it. Because. Fuck.
(I do, however, confess that I still don't like Ianto. For a full day I was walking around with the words COMPASSION FAIL written on my forehead.)

So I'm not the only one?

Well, okay, let me elaborate. CoE killed me, ripped my heart right out and gloated about it for a week afterwards. However, I am not upset about Ianto dying, per say. I was just emotionally invested in the show, the narrative really pulled me in. Ianto never really did anything for me (neither did Jack/Ianto.) I loved his quips and everything, but at the end of the day, it was a soft impression. My only real gripe with the miniseries was: how does this Jack -- this wounded and "broken" Jack -- fit into the DW universe he'll be visiting really soon?

A friend reports that RTD needed Jack to get away from TW so he killed off Ianto in order for Jack to be in the emotional state to kill Stephen (RTD said something along these lines in the special or something.) Not sure how I feel about that ... but it got people talking. It got them really passionate about the show and invested in it. I think CoE was a huge success for that reason alone. Was it the TW we all know and love? No. It was ... more ... grownup? Mature? (Dare I say EPIC?) It was the team but from a completley new POV. Definitely on a grander scale. I really enjoyed it, Ianto's death and all. It was a great story.

*done ranting now, I swear*

I agree that it was a different TW completely. The writing was definitely better as was the acting, IMHO. I wasn't emotionally invested in Ianto by any means. I feel bad for those that ship the pairing because I know what it's like to have your OTP beaten to death then burned right before your eyes. It sucks.

My heart aches for Jack. I don't hate him by any means. If anything, I want to hug him until I die of old age...or the Doctor comes and takes over for me. Not that I have any delusion that he'll actually accept it. :P At least from me. I certainly don't blame Jack for leaving either. People had to know that Torchwood wasn't permanent for him. Even if death and destruction hadn't befallen the Hub, I never thought he'd stay forever.

This was a more realistic TW - a place where you're faced with decisions no one should ever have to make, but someone unfortunately has to. *le sigh* It's not going to be easy to get over, but I can't hate the episodes from a acting/writing/theatrical standpoint. It was a good story with a great back story and a fascinating group of new aliens.

Okay, so I was supposed to wait until the weekend to share my thoughts with you. I fail. ;)

Hee! Thank you for failing. I'm glad to hear your thoughts on it.

A "realistic TW"-- I like how you worded that. It was more based in reality. Sure, there were aliens and whatnot, but the politics and moreso the humanity really came through. It was beautifully scripted and acted (Gwen really impressed me. And Rhys! And Andy! I haven't squeed about the "normal" boys yet. They were wonderful.)

This either pushes Jack towards the Doctor or very far away. It's sort of like another Game Station to me. Abandoned (moreorless) with questions (about himself) that may not be answerable. If and when he finds the Doctor he can either; find solace or punch him out for not coming to the rescue. Who knows what'll happen, though. This could just be erased from the DW universe and Jack'll be happy and flirt like hell while the world (or just Ten) ends.

Same here! They had a stellar support cast too. The best I've ever seen on Torchwood.

I don't think they'll cover the fallout of this in the DW finale. I wish they would, but we know TW/DW is known for plot holes the size of countries.

My canon is that the 456 were blocking all signals to reach the Doctor. After the 456 were killed or left - however you see it - I don't think anyone was in a hurry to talk to the Doctor.

Being me, I'm totally taking this on in fanfic. I'll probably be booed right off LJ, but eh...I can't help it. I have a Ten/Jack auction story I have to write.

As you said, I think it will push Jack away from the Doctor in the beginning. He's going to need time - a lot of it. And time is the one thing he has a lot of.

I've enjoyed hearing your thoughts!

And vail_kagami - thanks for letting me hijack your journal!

I'm still mad at my fannish self for not recognizing Frobisher from "Fires of Pompeii" and Nicholas Briggs!

First the Master, now the 456. The Doctor should find away around blocked signals. ;) (I loved Gwen's Doctor speech. Ugh.)

FIC IT!!! You'll succeed more than I would.

*waves to vail_kagami* Don't mind us. ;)

What can I say? The Doctor...well, fails I guess. ;)

DUDE! Gwen's speech was EPIC! I was gripping vail_kagami's knee so hard I probably left bruises! Just...damn. That was the focal point of fine writing and incredible acting.

LOL I don't know if I'll succeed. Since the CoE episodes completely ruined the Ten/Jack story I started, I had to think of something else. :P

There's always AUs. I'm sure there are plenty of people willing to forget CoE for a bit. Or you can set the fic before the events of CoE.

Eh, I'm a sucker for a good challenge. I actually want to write this story following CoE set somewhere far away and in the future.

A lot of my longer stories have been written in response to finale episodes. :) I'm past the point of caring how many people read something I've written. This is me ---> with my head in the sand.

I'll probably finish it about the time you finish your epic story. ;)

The offering of luck goes both ways, of course. ;)

I don't. I'm silently agreeing with most of what you said.
