The first time Raziel was about to go to battle was far from the first time he would fight and kill vampires. Still, there was a difference between the occasional hunt and the organized slaughter against organized enemies he was about to face. He wasn’t afraid, had seen and done too much to fear death like he might have a few years ago, but he also was less experienced than the other Sarafan, and while he did not exactly fear death, he couldn’t deny that the idea he might not live to be twenty filled him with a certain dread.
“Do not worry about the upcoming battle,” the time streamer Moebius said to him, unexpectedly, when the guardians were seeing them off at dawn, and smiled in a way that was unsettling rather than comforting. “You’re going to live forever.”
