1. He’s a hero.

The Doctor would like to say he knew it the moment the first met the human, but the sad truth is that the first time he met the human, Jack was just another untrustworthy, dubious and ( Read more... )

Oh, nice! I like your "the coin has two sides" approach.

Jack has also selflessly risked his sanity for the sake of others, and that is something he could not simply regrow if it got cut away.

Which keeps Jack from being like a cartoon character -- immortality isn't a total "reset," even if Jack tends to act like it is.

...the Doctor has come to see the benefits of someone who will always be there.

Well, he would if I were writing the show! (Although, in that scene on the Plass in "LOTTL," he didn't seem the least bit conflicted about asking Jack to come along.)

Being one of those people is humbling...the Doctor...pretends not to notice it, for he does not know how to handle being loved so much.

And Jack will always be there, and will always love him, whether the Doctor likes it or not :)

[Jack] also, despite his naturally exhibitionistic and self-confident personality, hardly ever tries to become centre of events and never hesitates to follow the Doctor’s orders.

Yes, it's interesting how naturally Jack falls into step as the Doctor's subordinate. He did it with Nine, and in "Utopia," after decades away and despite the mutual sniping, picked up the role again as easily as he picked up the Doctor's coat.

...being noticed before someone as noticeable as Jack means that the Doctor is practically glowing in the dark.

*snicker*

...Jack keeps insisting that rabbits don’t count...

Uh, what does that mean?

The Doctor loves poking his sleeping friend with his finger until he rolls over and wails like a little boy.

I think I'm in love with that image :D It sounds like something Rose would have started. (Maybe yoshiyuki_est would draw it!)

...the Doctor is of the opinion that none of his friends has a good reason to endanger their lives as long he is there to do it in their place.

And he hates it that Jack thinks he has a good reason! (Actually, he does, relative to the Doctor, but...)

The moment he can hand responsibility over to someone he deems more capable of taking care of things, Jack is perfectly happy with being a sidekick and having all the fun of running over distant worlds and saving things, while leaving dealing with the consequences to someone else.

Yes, Jack gets to do what the Doctor got to do when the rest of the Time Lords were there to pick up after him :D

As much as the Doctor likes to paint Jack’s face while he is in his corpselike early morning state...

Oh, dear. Rose left her makeup on the TARDIS, didn't she? Sounds like another project for yoshiyuki_est ;)

That's a little scary, isn't it?

It was obvious in Utopia how much Jack enjoys having the adventures but not the responsibility. Actually, I prefer Sidekick!Jack over Leader!Jack.

I'm glad you liked them!

Kind of like in RL ;) Looking at it again reminds me of your Ten/TARDIS-by-way-of-Jack non-con fic, actually. Which was a lot scary!

I prefer Sidekick!Jack over Leader!Jack.

So does Jack, I think :)
