It was tragic - the picture you painted was so very bleak. And seeing Nine! I hadn't expected that. He left Fitz. :(
All he could do now was hope that the universe at least would survive, and make this all worth it. A noble thought to go with. Fitz tried to actually mean it.
I love Fitz's thoughts when faced with his own death. It's pretty hard to be heroic when there's nothing to do.

Fitz is always heroic while being absolutely not heroic at all. It makes him quite easy to write.
