Ouch.

This is a very realistic look as to what Rose must feel like. It broke my heart!

As always, as an author, you don't shy away from the tough issues. I respect you for that.

“Yes. But not the way you want him to. He can’t - it would destroy him. You would destroy him.” He’s sitting straight, a slim figure in front of the window, the world. Fragile. His hands are lying on the table, unmoving. “He couldn’t give you forever.”

She clings to the delusion that this isn’t true. “And you can?”

His hands, folded on the table in front of him. “I don’t have forever,” he reminds her. “But what I have to offer is yours.”

Poor 10.5. :( I even felt bad for Rose in the finale because I like the Doctor just made the decision for her even if we all know she loved him and that was the closest she'd ever come to having him.

Spelling check: “He thinks you’re beautiful, but not in a way you could understand,” the tells her one day. he tells her one day ( ... )

Thank you!
It was something that popped up in my head while I tried to think of a story for the Obsession-challenge. It's not a pairing I ever thought I'd write.

But I decided not to sleep tonight, so between writing on the AU fic, reading by my homework and trying to finish my novel I had a little time left...

The more I think about it the less I can belive in a happy ending for those two, but then you never know. I guess it depends - if the new Doctor is too much like the old Doctor domestic life on earth is not going to make him happy for long though...
Thanks for the review!

Lovely lovely lovely beyond words. It's already been said, but my god! This is SO realistic! I absolutely adore it. I like the distance of it, but the snippits of conversation you get are just enough to have a complete understanding of how everyone feels!

"He’s the pet given to me as compensation for a lost friend"

That part almost made me physically reel back. Really, really well done. :D Thanks so much for writing it!

This is amazing. I mean it.

You've expressed so much here, everything that should have been at least hinted at in the beach scene, and could have been with just a few lines and facial expressions, had not RTD (apparently) been determined to force it into the framework of what he thought a "happy" ending for Rose should be. (A reset to "Nine" that she could take home and fix? (which he clearly wasn't, anyway) And no sign of anger, or at least resistance, to the Doctor making this decision for her?)

Rose's anger at the Doctor and his betrayal...

“He’s left me...How can he think this is best for me?...Stranding me here with this parody of him to remind me every day of what I’ve lost!"

...and his presumption.

"...he could never have given you what you need...This man is the life the Doctor wants to live, and he gave it to you."

And maybe Jackie's right, maybe it is what Rose needs, but it's not what she wants now. Besides, the Doctor never gave her a chance to choose ( ... )

Quite a review... Wow!
Thank's a lot!

I had the impression that the Doctor didn't really want to accept his copy as a real person. That might be because that man is more or less him (except not really), because he knows, by definition, everything about the Doctor, which is certainly a reason for him to push him away, and also because 10.5 is a reminder of a past the Doctor doesn't like to be reminded of. In any case, it seemed a little odd that he got no say whatsoever in his fate, but then, if he was any like the original, he would not have accepted anything he didn't want.
I still can't, realistically, imagine the thing with him and Rose going very well. There aren't just the things mentioned in this story. He's a Time Lord, or at least has all the memories of being a Time Lord. He's used to not aging, and I'm not sure how he'll cope with his own mortality now. Also he's stuck on Earth for that short life he has, and quite possibly that won't be enough for him.
