This was such a painful description of what the Time War must have been like. The Master is as elusive as ever. You painted a picture of him being a coward, and the Doctor trying to fight because he doesn't know how to give up. That's really how I see them. It's interesting and very realistic that the Master saves the Doctor in his own way even if he doesn't know why he's doing it.

As always, thanks for sharing these snippets of the Time War with us. They had so much depth to these characters.

Well done, paints a bleak, horrible picture. In a way it's easier for the doctor given this scenario - his people were already all dead when he destroyed Gallifrey.

Oh, that’s sort of depressing. But in a good way. ^^ (Btw, the last part reminded me of the Pompeii episode when they’re in the volcano - just the setting of it.)

... ouch.
*huggles self* You might have shattered my soul right there, can you hand me some duct-tape please?
That HURT, that did ... and the 'persistent voice' telling the Master he shouldn't have left without the Doctor? That was probably me, breaking the fourth wall. Imagine if he'd taken the Doctor with him! I mean, the Daleks would have gone on a rampage and taken out the universe, but still ... maybe the Doctor and the Master could have stopped it together, if they ran away to fight another day?
I kinda want a mini-series, or a series-series, about the Time War. But somehow I don't think we can convey the magnatude of destruction that must have been going on. Daleks, Time Lords ... (were allies allowed or was it just those two?) ... maybe it's better left to the imagination ...

Great fic, though, I just go off on tangents, sorry!
