Doctor Who Meme

I couldn't resist any longer. Okay, that's a lie - until today it never really occur to me that I could do this as well.

Snatched it from
marah_sarie.

1. When did you start watching?
On September 19th 2006, on a flight to Japan. They offered a lot of random episodes from TV serieses on the flight, including "New Earth".
Started watching regularly (starting with "Rose") a few weeks later, meeting with a friend who had brought the first and second season after our classes in empty classrooms or the like. If you're willing to travel an hour just to watch Doctor Who in a park in December you know it's love.

1a. Why?
Said friend was a fan. She found DW on a list with movies etc. that have at least one gay or bisexual main character (I think) and started watching because of Jack. Fell in love with the series and passed that love on to me.

2. What was your first serial/episode?
"New Earth". Which means the regeneration didn't shock me half as much as it did my friend when she first saw it. First classic was the remaining part of "The Underwater Meance", watched on youtube, and the fist complete one was "Genesis of the Daleks".

3. Which serials/episodes have you seen?
First Doctor: "An Unearthly Child", "The Daleks"
Second Doctor: "Tomb of the Cybermen", one part of " The Underwater Meance", "The Krotons", "The War Games"
Third Doctor: "Spearhead from Space", "Doctor Who and the Silurians", "Terror of the Autons", "The Mind of Evil", "The Three Doctors", "Time Monster", "Planet of the Spiders"
Fourth Doctor: "Robot", "Genesis of the Daleks", "The Deadly Assassin", "Invasion of Time", "City of Death", "The Keeper of Traken", "Logopolis"
Fifth Doctor: "Castrovalva", "Arc of Infinity", "Mawdryn Undead", "Terminus", "Enlightenment", "The Five Doctors", "The Caves of Androzani"
Sixth Doctor: "Twin Dilemma", "Vengeance on Varos", "Mark of the Rani", "The Two Doctors", "The Mysterious Planet", "Mindwarp", "Terror of the Vervoids", "The Ultimate Foe"
Seventh Doctor: "Time and the Rani", "Rememberance of the Daleks", "Survival"
Eighth Doctor: "The Enemy Within"
All of the new ones.

3a. Favourite?
New: "Dalek", "School Reuinon", "Utopia". Among others.
Old: Ah hell... "Mark of the Rani". Because nothing is better than three renegade Time Lords in one place and men that turn into trees. And "The Two Doctors," because it has Two and Jamie meeting Six and switching pronouns.

4. Are your friends/family interested in the show?
Friends, yes. I made one be, and one made me. (Oh, that rhymes. It's getting worse.)

5. Which Doctor is your favourite?
Always the one I'm watching at the moment. Don't make me chose.

6. Which Doctor is your least favourite?
Loved all of them. Yes, even Six. Six ruled!

7. Which TV companion is your favourite?
Do I have to say it? Jamie. Is there another possible answer to this question? Also I liked Jo, Leela and Romana a lot more than I expected I would. Fitz isn't a TV companion, sadly, or he would so be on the list.  And, well, there's Jack. And Martha. And I have a lot of hope for Donna. Yeah, bite me.

8. Which TV companion is your least favourite?
Peri.

9. Do you listen to the Big Finish audios?
No. I'll ignore the following questions for time reasons.

9a. If so, which is your favourite?

9b. Also: which Big Finish companion is your favourite?

10. Have you listened to any non-Big Finish audios?
Nope. Time to go skipping again.

10a. If so, which is your favourite?

11. Have you read any of the novels or short stories?
Several.

11a. Have you written any of the novels or short stories?
I so would, but I'm not British. I'm being discriminated against!

11b. Which is your favourite?
Hard to tell. The first one that comes to mind is the Eighth Doctor novel "Trading Futures" by Lance Parkin though. Loved that one. It had space rhinos.

12. Have you read any of the comics?
No.

12a. You guessed it - which is your favourite?
Here we go again...

13. Do you watch any of the spinoffs (e.g. Torchwood, Sarah Jane Adventures)?
Torchwood. Want to see SJA someday.

13a. Which is your favourite?
Torchwood is winning by default.

14. Is there any particular episode/book/audio/comic you desperately want to watch/listen to/read?
"The Highlanders", naturaly. "Invasion". Several others. Some novels I know exist but don't actually know the titles of.

Fandom
1. Do you write fanfic for Doctor Who?
Who, me? Yes, it's ruining my hands.

1a. If so, post a snippet of a work-in-progress (or several)!

A low chuckle, and a hand covering his, solid and warm. It’s like the grass and the sunshine and the wind that has started ever so slightly, caressing his cheek the way the hand never would. The illusion is too perfect.

“You’re not real,” the Doctor repeats without bitterness, his fingers closing around the other’s none the less. They are squeezed, in a way that holds no fondness, and the Master says:

“Neither are you. You’re a shadow, cast by something that’s no longer there. You’re a ghost, an echo. Reality doesn’t want you.” He leans closer and the Doctor, in return, has to lean back until he’s lying on the ground. “You don’t belong here,” the Master tells him in his never changing voice. “You never did.”

2. Do you create Doctor Who icons?
Yes. But not very professionally so.

2a. Let's see a sample!
Top of this post.

3. Recommend a fanfic/icon/fanvid/fancomic/fancreation!
Fanfic: The Language of Forever by
amberite. Yes, I'm deliberately not chosing a work of someone I have a lot of contact with.
Fanvid: TARDIS Trip, 44 Years in 4 Minutes. The editing makes your head explode but it's a work of genius.
Fancomic:
torch_sticks

4. Have you been to any Doctor Who conventions?
I wish.

5. Have you ever dressed up as a Doctor Who character?
No. But I want Ten's shoes. And I have an endless scarf a friend made for me. Sadly it's too heavy to wear.

6. Do you own any Doctor Who merchandise?
As a matter of fact I do.

7. Are you a fan of Russell T Davies?
I wouldn't call myself a fan, but I'm glad he revived the series.

7a. Steven Moffat?
Well, his episodes ARE great...

7b. Paul Cornell?
What's it with these questions? "Human Nature"/"Family of Blood" was very good, by the way.

8. What say you to Season 6b?
So happened!

9. The UNIT dating controversy?
Oh, the were open for everything and everyone.

10. The Blinovitch Limitation effect?
Embarrassingly enough I don't understand the question.

11. Multi-Doctor episodes?
I always approached them a little sceptical but ended up liking them a lot.

12. What's your favourite Doctor Who technobabble?
The stuff from "Blink"? I'm not good at paying attention to that kind of thing, but wibbly-wobbly stuff and reversing polarities sticks in mind.

13. Have you watched other TV shows exclusively because of the presence of Doctor Who actors?
Well, yes.

14. Have you met any of the actors?
Nope.

14a. Travelled to any filming locations?
No. Wrong country and all.

15. What do you think of The Curse of Fatal Death?
"Oh, look! It has three settings!"

16. Do you have any fannish opinions that you think are fairly unpopular?
I don't like Ianto Jones.

17. What's your favourite pairing?
Doctor/Master, Doctor/TARDIS. Everything else would be temporary. (Yes, even Jack. Even if they made him immortal he's still bound to one actor. And they just don't have that backstory.)

18. What pairing(s) won't you touch with a really long pole?
Doctor/Rose. I don't hate her in the series but the fandom has forever ruined her for me in fanfics.
Oh, and Master/Ianto, of course. I mean, come on! (Yes, I know! I'm a minority.)
