How was your way into fandom? When did you start to write fanfiction in English and why?

My way into fandom... That was long ago. I hardly remember. I was very into Japanese comics at the time and discovered the joys of the internet for the first time. Which led to a lot of shameless surfing and an exorbitant phone bill. Yes, that long ago.
I learned English reading fanfics. Eventually, I wanted to write myself, and soon discovered that it was less awkward to write in English. This never changed. I have no ide why. I don't like reading fics in German.
I only really got into fandom when I began to use lj, a couple of years ago.

I prefer writing in English too! Barely read/write anything in German. It sounds just weird *G*

When and how did you get into studying Japanese? :)

Long story short: I was interested in the language, inspired by Japanese comics. When I finished school and had to decide what to do, several options presented themselves, but most weren't very desireable. In the end I picked Japanology because I was interested in language and culture, and because I liked the city my university is in.
