I went to school this morning as a parent instead of a employee and spoke to the Primary Deputy Principal about Erin.
Jase and I are thinking that she may have some sort of learning disability. I am not sure what, perhaps some sort of perception recall. It is hard to think of your kid as having problems but I would like to know sooner than later and so the school will hopefully get some testing done and assessments on her.
She is fine with her speech and her vocabulary is actually quite good. She spoke clearly and fluently early but has a real difficulty with recall of certain things. For example she can tell us the entire plot of a movie no trouble but cannot remember a single characters name, even of she has watched the movie 10 times over. She still has difficulty differentiating between Campbell and Liam (her brothers). The little boy who she is with everyday at the Nanny and who is a close friend of ours son, she will call "little man" instead of Eamonn and has to be really pushed to get the name right.
She also lacks spatial awareness. She cannot judge distance and falls over and drops things although her eye tests are fine. In terms of intellect she generally appears fine but then although she can recite the alphabet without problem and count to 50, she cannot recognise what is a number or a letter and cannot tell me on paper what any of the letters or numbers are. She used to be able to tell me some of these but it is like her recall has all gone. On her Nintendo she knows which button is "A" but then when I draw and "A" and ask her what letter it is, she has no idea. She will guess and come up with a mixture of letters and numbers. She cannot write or spell her name, and will not even attempt it.
Maybe I am comparing too much with other kids her same age. Maybe I am comparing her to Morgan too much as well, who was so eager to learn and will sit and read books cover to cover now.
But still. I guess time will tell.
