The unused part of our driveway(and the nearby garden) has been taken over by jewelweed. I like how it resembles a swarm of pink and white faeries. If i had my way there would be yellow and spotted orange faeries, too. The hummingbirds have been visiting daily and the evening we returned from the Japanese Lantern Lighting Festival we saw a hummingbird moth. Today i went to the back door at just the right time to see a hummingbird feeding on the flowers closest to the house. It was having a bit of trouble with the fuchsia and i could see its little feet gripping the leaves as it tried to get a better angle. Ah, iridescent feathers! Apparently the Indigo Bunting's feathers are black but refract light to appear blue. We saw a couple in the lower part of Kaposia as well as goldfinches. I think they've eaten up the thistle seed near our yard already since i haven't been seeing them as often.

Speaking of not seeing things! Where are all the butterflies and woolly caterpillars? What happened to the snakes and amphibians? Sure a friendly butterfly landed on both Mum and me on our last walk but other than a few cabbage butterflies and some monarchs there's been nothing! It worries and saddens me...
