Iron & Wine writes and sings the most amazing songs that I have probably ever heard. His real name is Sam Beam, and he pretty much just makes music in his basement or on his porch somewhere in the American South. Lots of subverted Christian metaphors and very postmod. American Gothic - but also very emotionally powerful. Very hushed, quiet and almost mournful.

For me, it literally stops time and makes whatever I'm doing a joy while I feel peaceful, humble and thankful as it plays. One song, "Each Coming Night", literally brings me to tears almost every time I hear it. There's a sense of peace and humility that enters the room when Iron & Wine is playing. The only way to *get* what I'm saying is to listen to this cd, with headphones, perhaps in the woods somewhere or near the beach. Breathtaking in its simplicity, unique in its lyrical beauty and transcendent in the way Sam Beam's layered voice reaches unbelievable heights, this is an artist whom I will always hold dear to my heart.

I just hope he doesn't become famous. That would ruin everything - for me and him.
