was amazing, we arrived on friday afternoon and got a taxi from the airport through brooklyn and over the brooklyn bridge, it was really cool, the driver was like a tour guide and he knew all the little secrets and stories from different places. we got to the hotel which was on the upper west side of the city on broadway, near harlem, it was a nice room, basic but comfy.
we went out for dinner after we checked in, we ended up walking to midtown and had dinner on the corner of times square which is amazing at night, wandered about some more then went to bed cos we were so tired from the flight.
we got up really really early on sat and wandered towards central park which was about 5 blocks across from our hotel, it is fucking huge!!! and really cool, we saw the fountain from friends and all the other wee touristy bits of the park. after that it was breakfast time then we walked up 6th avenue and to the rockerfellar(sp?) centre and watched the ice skaters outside, nbc studios was cool too. then it was on to the empire state building which was amazing although i was getting a bit grumpy by now. we then went shopping around 5th avenue and broadway and my mum bought me furry leapord print converse and furry zebra print converse, later that day she also treated me to $230 worth of mac stuff (it was my birthday gifts)
i bought jeans and other crap and we went for dinner and then went home to sleep.
sunday was amazing went and looked at the dakota building and there were signs up cos jared leto is shooting the movie there so got bored and wandered through the park towards 5th and my mum and sister had to leave and go back to the hotel all of a sudden so i got to wander about ny on my own for a few hours looking like a total tourist! :) i got lost near greenwich village and had to turn back as i was looking for the empire state building but couldnt actually find it, yeah i know thats fuckin stoopid of me but i got to see a lot of the quiet parts of the city it was good, met some nice natives as well, very chatty people. my sister got three pairs of the anniversary gutties from adidas, i found her the graf ones though when i was lost :D
anyways after that i met up with my mum and sister outside macy's and we went on one of those tour new york buses which took us down by greenwich, soho, noho, little italy, china town, ground zero in the financial district and all the way back up. the south side of the city is by far the best, its so cute but so expensive and there was a bone and fossil shop next to a mac and armani shop which made me chortle :)
we then went for coffee cos we had to go back to broadway to see hairspray the musical, it was amazing, a proper broadway affair and we had really good seats as well, then we went to this 24 hour diner and got cake and coffee.
now its monday morning and we only had a few hours before we had to go to the airport so we went to central park zoo which was amazing although i do disagree somewhat to having arctic monkeys, sealions, penguins, red pandas and polar bears in the middle of new york, the most amazing part thought was the rainforest climate they had built and maintained in this big building, so you walk through it and all the birds and lizards are running about and it feels like your in their habitat because there is no glass and no boundaries or cages in there, plus they rained down this tropical mist constantly and it was so humid and the weirdest birds in the world were just padding about the paths like multi coloured pigeons with hats on :)
so that was the highlights of new york and its the only city i can say i could quite happily live in if i were rich enough, scott and i are planning a trip back next spring, but we'll stay longer this time.
:D
