Personality: Juudai started off a bit over-the-top ignorant and self-centered from the very beginning, no matter how well-meaning he was at heart. In the beginning of the series, he often wound up being rather childish underneath the good-hearted exterior -- he tended to be thoughtless, scatterbrained, hesitant to take anything seriously, and even selfish... but most of these traits wound up getting masked by his inclination to be a good person and a kind hero, and often came across in a way that seemed more charming and innocent to most people than brash and stupid at first. He was just a nice guy, if a little dense and oblivious to everything most of the time. However, these negative traits of his stopped being quite so "charming and innocent" when he wound up growing into someone who was outright reckless and neglected to consider the consequences of his actions, which really got to him when he realized just how much of a dick he'd been -- that's an understatement, as he pretty much went off the deep end when unfathomable results came of his actions afterward. Then, once he'd fused with Yubel, it seemed a lot like he'd shifted gears from one extreme to the other; from being reluctant to handle anything with seriousness to being a little too "serious business" at all times. Over the course of season four, though, he relearned how to lighten up and have fun again, thanks to his friends, and found the right balance on his personality to make him a more mature, reliable person as a whole.
One thing about Juudai is that he is very trustworthy and righteous, and fiercely protective of those people he cares about. When he has an opinion, he says it. When he wants something changed, he takes action. And when somebody wants advice, he's the one who gets approached. People simply trust him. In addition, he has a very cheerful air about him most of the time; he makes friends very easily and rarely finds someone who can resist his good-natured, charismatic charm. Once they get to know him better, though, occasionally he can come across as someone older than his years, who shoulders a heavy, tiring burden not meant for someone quite so young or inexperienced. Yet, even despite the world on his back as it is, he looks out for people, and tries to be a good friend despite his past mistakes.
He is quite solicitious and sympathetic under certain circumstances, particularly to those close to him, but he does not like to get his friends wrapped up in the practically apocalyptic problems that tend to follow him like an unwanted shadow due to his prominent position in his own universe's grand scheme. Unless someone makes a particular effort to get in his way or antagonize him, Juudai will make a decent effort to be a nice enough guy to everyone who deserves it. A few leftover negative points still exist within him, being that he still has an arrogant streak a mile wide and can be a little abrasive sometimes to people who grate on him, but overall he's usually pretty chill.
Strengths/Weaknesses: Juudai's biggest weakness lies in the well-being of those he cares about. The quickest way to get to him is through his friends, and the villains in his world have figured this out, it seems -- nearly all of them have preyed upon his friends in some way, torturing or brainwashing them in order to take the easiest route to bringing him down. At first, he attempted to alienate them to try and keep them safe from all the crazy that haunts him, but soon learned it didn't really matter if he did or didn't, that they would try to stick by him no matter what, so he decided he was just hurting them more and stopped. Even in the face of adversity, he's grown strong enough not to waver, but when it comes to a friend being in danger, he can be taunted and held up much more easily than if one were trying to take a direct route to play with his mind. At the point he's coming from, he's a very strong-minded and secure person, so trying to screw around with his self-confidence doesn't work quite as well as it might have earlier on in the series.

[The camera comes on to a very tense-looking Juudai staring at it. He looks like he's trying his hardest not to panic, and grits his teeth, hesitating before speaking.]
...Yubel.
I don't care about not being at home, or wherever I was before. Hell, I don't even care about being in an entirely new world that isn't what I might call home. Been there, done that. Multiple times over, even. So, "New Bark Town"... never heard of it, and it actually sounds kinda weird if you ask me, but that doesn't really matter right now.
What matters is... she's gone. So, how the hell is this even possible, dammit?! You don't just lose someone who was permanently bound to your soul! There has to be an explanation for this, seriously!! It wasn't supposed to be--!
[He looks down at his feet for a moment, forcibly cutting himself off and looking pointedly at something else, and then takes a deep, calming breath.]
...Ugh. Well, at least I'm not totally alone here. I can't stand that sense of not knowing she's there, watching my back, watching me, and being able to feel that second set of emotions I was so used to... but, well, I guess these Pokemon things are a little like spirits, right? Only difference is that they're tangible, and they're pretty much everywhere...
That doesn't make it okay, though. It just makes it a little more tolerable. Between that damn music and not having the knowledge that aibou and Yubel are around, I just... ugh.
[Plopping himself down on the ground, the Growlithe that was at his feet previously half-tackles him and starts licking him. He pets its furry head almost tenderly.]
...You'll help me find out, though. I know you will. You seem trustworthy enough, hehe.
I just hope they don't fall into the wrong hands...

The absence of sheer presence scattered Juudai's wits every which way, tossing them to the side in random piles. It was rather strange, he thought, how the loss of a sort of second sight caused his entire world to fall over and twist itself into knots. An ineffable something had been touched and guarded in his soul by Yubel at any given moment, and the something told him that he would not find peace or stability until he could see her, feel her, if not touch her, once again.
He'd been turning over what to do about it in his mind for hours now. Not doing so simply sitting stationary in one place, however -- he was keeping himself moving in whatever direction felt right, carrying the same red sack over his shoulder as he'd been doing for what felt like millennia, with only the wind to guide him. The Growlithe trotted at his heels with full trust in him; it had no idea where he was going, either, but left the navigating to Juudai nonetheless, being the loyal little puppy that it was. He was used to being the dissimilar foreigner by now, in any city of any world. And yet, none were able to be called his own, it seemed.
The irony was killing him. His head still felt cloudy from the lack of a spirit sense, but he knew that wasn't entirely why he felt so lost, even without hearing the whispered thoughts from her to urge him still another step forward. Even with the falling of night, the coming of his element of darkness, he was not at home in the cool silence. Instead, his ears hungered for the small, soft sounds and sensations that came from communication with spirits, the trilling and cooing of his partner fluffball, and the less guarded moments of conversation between himself and his guardian.
He trudged up a gently inclined hill to the top and sat down, dropping his bag haphazardly while the tiger-striped puppy nestled at his side affectionately. He'd lost a lot, too much, to have made it this far to fail: his family, his friends, his material possessions had all decayed away as the transient terms in his general solution to life. If he couldn't find what he was looking for, there would be no trying again tomorrow because it'd be too late by then; there would be no trying again, ever. Just about out of resolve for the day, he lay flat on his back to stare up at the infinite width of the sky.
"Hey," he said in a low murmur, lazily reaching a hand out to rest it on the Growlithe's body, "will you stick with me until I find them again? Until I find everything?"
It shifted and snuggled a little closer, making an almost acknowledging growl sound deep within its throat. Juudai smiled faintly.
"I'm not going to just 'deal with' the fact that my spirits are gone. I'm going to fix it," he concluded. "And then... I'm going to find what I've been looking for, and sort my life out the way I've been meaning to do for as long as I can remember. There is something I'm meant to do, so I'm going to figure it out and do it."
He rolled his head to one side to look at the backside of the Growlithe, its tail idly brushing at the grass. The rest of Juudai's body soon followed, and he let one of his arms creep around the puppy to hold it in a hugging sort of position. He could feel the warmth of its fur, and its texture was strikingly similar to his Hane Kuriboh's. For the moment, some of his tension melted and flowed away, like a river rushing melted snow to the sea.
