Jhonen was bullied today at school. The VP called to say that he was with DPS Security, reviewing video of a 6th grader kneeing Jhonen twice in the leg on the playground, and then Jhonen limping away before a teacher intervened. Apparently, earlier in the morning, Jhonen and the 6th grader’s little sister had some words over artwork (“yours is ugly,” then “no, yours is ugly”) but nothing that would have warranted physical abuse. Jhonen is fine. He’s on his afternoon field trip to the nature reserve out by DIA. The VP said that the 6th grader is getting 10 hours of community service within the school, and if there is a 2nd offense he will be suspended. They will be on the lookout for any future potential events.
I had hoped this type of thing could be avoided. We were having a few issues in public schools 3 years ago, which is why I put the kids in private for 2 years. Private has a zero tolerance for bullying, and will literally just expel the child. That's their perogative, as private is not a right, but a paid option...
