So for those of you who didn't know, I really love old sci-fi. The stuff that was written well before I was born and well before things like the internet, the moon landing or cell phones. Back when technology and space travel really were just science fiction. So I'm currently reading a book edited by Spider Robinson called "The Best of all ( Read more... )

yay! it IS great to read things written before invention and progress intervened.

if you don't mind reading kids' stories, i highly recommend any of the Space Cat adventures...they're a about a cat's travels with his owner, an astronaut, to the moon, mars, etc...all before we went to the moon. the author's view of how other planets looked is adorable and creative...like the lush forstry of mars. i LOVE those books.

cool. Who's the author? I probably won't be able to find them here, but I'll add them to my list of books to buy when I get home. :)

the author is Ruthven Todd, illustrator Paul Galdone. it's totally out of print, but you can find used copies around sometimes, maybe in some libraries.
it's worth it, a very cute, fun read.

I'll find it. I seem to have the book fu. The one I'm reading now (The Best of all Possible Worlds) I found online for $50 & $60, but I managed to pick it up at Page One Two for $1.50. Score!
