The police bodyguard of a Japanese cabinet minister has been arrested on suspicion of groping a woman on a Tokyo train. Masao Shinada, a member of the VIP Protection Unit, was apprehended by fellow commuters on July 2nd and accused of having molested a passenger in her 20s. Groping is a serious problem on Tokyo’s overcrowded commuter trains, and in 2005 the city introduced women-only carriages on some routes during rush-hour. To the amusement of some, Mr Shinada's job had been to protect Sanae Takaichi, one of the few female cabinet ministers. Her portfolio includes policy aimed at achieving gender equality.
