Re: Well done. vaberella July 3 2010, 20:23:23 UTC
First off thanks for the review. Second, if you'd like to talk someone else about the Arthur/Gwen/Lancelot thing, then I'd gladly talk. I go by this name on msn through hotmail and I have the same name on yahoo although I don't use that much and I have the same name on Skype. I don't know anyone but myself who watches the show to chat over the eps anyway.

Anyway to go on to your statements. Yes, I do think the writers moved way way way way to fast with the Gwen/Arthur pairing. But as you said they were not sure if they had much more to go. But I mean they opened with 6 million views and are syndicated worldwide because of it's popularity. I think they'll go slower.

Well I saw that scene in Lancelot and Guinevere a few times and I get the feeling the BBC version will follow, in relation only to the Gwen character, the 2004 film called King Arthur---you can see that they picked up bits and pieces in order to model Arthur. You see the attraction between Guinevere and Arthur and you can see Lancelot's feelings towards Guinevere. In the episode and much like the film, Guinevere is fully aware of Lancelot's feelings. Unfortunately for him she doesn't return it. He thinks her kindness and the fact that she treats him as she does is her way of loving him. When although she loves him, she loves him as a friend. Basically what I'm saying is I think the writers will not go the path that the other horrible Arthurian legends have went where the woman is basically a whore and betrays her husband. You will see that Guinevere will remain by Arthur's side however Lancelot will continuously persu her.

You shouldn't dread Lancelot----I always liked the guy. As a kid when I read The Once and Future King---I hated all the women and loved the men, especially Lancelot. I saw Guinevere as a woman who brought upon the downfall of Camelot as so many other writers have depicted. The film King Arthur gave a new spin into Guinevere and showed her as a devoted woman to Arthur and as an equal. And ultimately if you look past the supposed 'betrayal' that is what Guinevere always was. His equal, his confidant and the woman to remain by his side and that is why through it all Arthur had only one love.

Guinevere's feelings for Lancelot is never love. Well in the BBC version, most definitely it's not. It's gratitude. When you look at the scene, the scene where he says if she's thought of him as much as he's thought of her, she was utterly awkward and changed the subject to avoid lying to him. When she kisses him, it's out of gratefulness that he saved her life and this might be the last time she sees him. There is no love there--You can see she's fairly burdened by his feelings.

However I think she might respond to him more because he's attainable. As I mention in my fanfic he's almost equal to Arthur without the arrogance and crassness nor the title that makes their love impossible to her. So she would see Lancelot as a second best and develop something there.

But two things mess up those chances...she doesn't truly love him and will then feel obligated, and secondly because Uther is not dead he will not be able to stay. Again going the way of the nomad. As long as Uther is around Lancelot will not be.

I think Arthur will welcome him in S3, but he will also be outwardly jealous and antagonistic when he sees Lancelot near and talking to Guinevere. He will feel threatened. Note what I have said earlier...Guinevere might move closer to Lancelot and Arthur's jealousy might push her away or push her away from both men as well. Ultimately though, I think what will happen is you will see Lancelot leaving the picture again because he will see something romantic and private between Arthur and Guinevere and he will leave. Until he comes back again either wanting to claim her for himself.

At the end of the series if it can cancel itself, in the sense that it has made massive progress and ends up canceling...it would probably cancel with Lancelot's death and Gwen and Arthur together in line with the 2004 film.

Again if you want to chat on this I'm free. Message me on messenger, skype is best but I'm on msn as well under the same name.
